One of the best genealogy tools available to us today is DNA testing of the
men in our direct lines. It helps eliminate persons in some areas for our
search. It can tear down walls in our research that was impossible 5 years ago
and it can prove lineage's for certain persons. For information about DNA
testing, and to check to see if your family has a test site, go to
_http://www.familytreedna.com_ (

of
interest to you. If you are researching Lawson's, they have a very active
testing group. At least 30 persons have tested their DNA. The costs are $99 for
12 markers, $169 for 25 and I think it is another $99 for the last 12 markers
for a total of 37 markers. I wish I could be more accurate about that cost,
but it is one that I am only now adding to my Lawson list. At this time, my
Amos Lawson line of Monroe and Brown County has a 25 marker test completed. We
are Kit #14106 among the men on that list. James Lawson, of Ft. Walton Beach,
FL tested for me. His gr. grandfather was Gabriel Lawson who lived in Owen
County around 1900. Gabe's sister was Nancy Catherine Lawson wife of Lewis
Newton Michael of Owen County and Clay City. They were my gr. grandparents.
I am hoping to find any male descendent with the name Auman who will test
his DNA. I know that Peter Auman came to Owen County about 1854. I am hopeful we
can find someone from that line of Auman's (Orman, Oman, Ormann, Oerman,
Ohman, Orment. Aumann) to test. We have a donor from the Philip Auman line of
Center Co., PA who has tested. Philip was born before 1800 in PA. We also have
a DNA test return for Kenneth Orman who is descended from Andrew Orman and
Nancy Comer who lived along the County line south of Bowling Green. William T.
Auman of Randolph Co., NC has also tested and is an exact match with Kenny,
which means the Orman's of Washington Twp., Clay Co., IN are descended from
Andrew Auman of Randolph and Moore County, NC. Andrew Auman was born in 1762 in
PA the son of Michael Auman and wife Anna Margareta. Andrew's first wife was
Barbara Luther, sister of George Auman whose descendents are also in Owen
and Clay County, IN. His second, and the mother of Henry, Martin, Andrew, Mary
Davis, and David Orman, Sr, was Mary Cagle.
If you know the name and mailing address of any male descendent of Levi or
Elijah Auman of the Owen County, IN area, please contact me. I hope to see more
of the Owen County list becoming active in DNA testing. I really don't
understand all of it, but if the markers are the same for two or more persons,
they connect to the same ancestor! If they don't, then you have 2 families
from different ancestors and probably even different places in Europe.
