Vickie,
Your question is still somewhat confusing, but I'll recommend
Ancestry.com.
In my opinion it is far superior to
Genealogy.com. I've had subscriptions
to both. You will still have to pay for birth and death records, etc. but
it will help a lot if you plan to go back further than your son's
grandfather. Just get US Records and the US Census. Give us your son's
father's father's name and I'll see if I can find him on the 1930 census.
Maybe we'll get lucky and find him as a child with his parents.

For those of you that asked, yes my son's father was my husband.
Sometimes
I
have to be really careful when speaking of him and calling him my
son's
father
was the nicest thing I could think of to call him. My son is 28 and
the
last
time he saw him my son was 3. My ex husband also had a brother and
step
sister
he saw about 25 years ago. My son and his Uncle met though
genalogy.com and
now have a good relationship. They were both on
genalogy.com looking
for
father/brother and found each other. Since then they have found my husband
died 6
years ago. They knew his father but nothing beyond that. If I knew
where
my ex
husband's father was born I could send away for his birth
records. I know
he
was murdered in Baltimore City Maryland (my home town) around 1966.
Both
my
parents died in Baltimore and their parents are not listed on the
death
records.
My ex husband Andrew LeeStevens Jr. was born 8/23/1954 in Baltimore
Md and
died
6 years ago in Clover North Carolina. am sorry if I confused anyone
but
like
I said I was trying to be nice. I just hoped to give my son and his
Uncle
a
family history.
Thank you for all your help,
Vickie Stevens
