For those who may be interested.........
Descendants of Nimrod & Sarah Fender will be in Owen Co. to erect a new
monument to honor our ancestors. Most out-of-towners will be arriving
Thursday, June 3.
We will meet Friday morning, June 4, at the Nimrod Fender Family Cemetery to
erect the stone and do a general cemetery cleanup. (I've never been there
before, and all I know is the cemetery is west of town about 3.5 miles.
It's just off Route 46...I believe. Anyway, we'll be there about 10AM.
Local descendants will be assisting (doing most of the work...LOL) us
out-of-towners.
The dedication will take place at the cemetery Saturday, June 5, at 10AM.
After the ceremony, a Fender Family Reunion will be held at the Trailside
Shelter in McCormick's Creek State Park.
Any locals who would like to assist up on Friday are more than welcome.
Wear some work clothes and bring along some gloves, trimmers, and whatever
you thiink might be necessary to clean up some of the older stones. The
dedication ceremony is open to the locals, and we'd love to have some
non-Fenders show up.
Nimrod & Sarah were never famous, but at least three of their descendants
were: Sam Bass, Leo Fender, and Dr. Fredrick Fender. Articles will most
likely be in the Spencer and Bedford newspapers. It may also be in the
Bloomington paper. Those article will tell about the three.
We Fenders invite everyone to come celebrate as we raise and dedicate a new
monument to honor our grandparents, Nimrod & Sarah Fender.
