Thanks to those of you who answered about searching the PERSI index from
home via your local library's subscription to Heritage Quest (and using your
library card number of course!). I looked at your messages very quickly via
webmail at work. Something has changed in that system, and all 20 messages
I had (part from this listserv) have now disappeared. This has never
happened before, so I can't reply directly to those who answered me. It
appears that others are accessing PERSI around the country, so hopefully
whatever the technical problem is at my library will be solved.
PERSI is a periodical index of genealogical periodicals. One of my family
names for Owen county, Criss, retrieves some interesting looking citations
in genealogical magazines. Some my library has on the shelves, but most it
does not. Although interlibrary loan is an option, I can be patient if the
articles are really going to be full text this year. Both a Heritage Quest
trainer and someone from the Allen County Public Library, who authored the
index have told me this. My library has the actual printed index as well,
but you still need access to the articles. Home access is a real plus,
especially once the full text becomes available.
