Hi Sherry,
None of these names look familiar to me, however, the OCG&HS has a wonderful
surname file you might check. I believe that they will do copying.
Their address is Owen County Historical and Genealogical Society, P.O. Box
569, Spencer, IN 47460.
Good hunting,
Michele

Subject: [INOWEN] Taylor/McGinnis Families
Hi Michele,
I believe that my gr gr gr grandfather, William McGinnis, b 5 Dec 1782
Westmoreland
Co., PA was first married to Trifena Taylor, the d/o Benjamin
Taylor and that she had a sister named Absolem. William and Trifena Taylor
were m. 25 Apr 1804 Pulaski Co., Ky. However, William and Trifena's
daughter, Rebecca McGinnis Gray died 9 May 1868 in Spencer, Owen Co., In.
Wm and his second wife eventually moved to Owen Co., Indiana cir 1830 where
three of their children were born, before they later moved back to Kentucky.
I have no absolute proof, but I've always believed that Trifena died cir
1814 possibly in child birth, and that the Taylor family raised Wm and
Trifena's children, possibly in the Owen Co. area. Which would explain why
Wm and his second wife, who were m. 1819, moved to Owen Co. for a time. I
also have a copy of a letter that Wm's first born son, Francis McGinnis,
wrote to his father on December 26, 1841 from Owen Co., In. As far as I can
ascertain, the children!
of William and Trifena would have been: Francis b. 8 Mar 1801 m.
1st
Jane Coffer and 2nd Elenora Bartlow; Nancy b. cir 1805 m. ? Smith; William
b. cir 1807; Mave b. cir 1810; Rebecca b. 28 Mar 1812 m. James Gray d. 9 May
1868 Spencer, Owen Co., In.; and Margaret b. cir 1814 m. 11 Jun 1840
Benjamin McGee in Owen Co., In. Since your Taylors also originated in PA,
and ended up in Owen Co., In., do you know of any info that could either
prove or disprove some of my theory. Could Benjamin, Trifena and Absolem be
a part of your family? Does anyone else on the list recognize any of these
family members?
Thank you for your consideration.
God Bless!
