My grandfather, Albert Porter Bond, b. Oct. 12, 1880, d. Dec. 8, 1962. He
was born in Coal City. He shot and killed Harley Gray and Melvin Hubbel who
was also of Coal City, on Feb. 16, 1916. The shooting took place in
Martinsville, IN. The two young men were taking my grandfather for
treatment in Martinsville because he was suffering from mental trouble. My
grandfather was then committed to the Indiana colony for the criminally
insane in the state prison at Michigan City. On Dec. 9, 1952, he was
admitted to the Madison State Hospital. According to all the records that I
have received, the last few years of his life, he was staying in the home of
Walter and Lois Raker, helping with Walter who was an invalid and also had
been a patient at Madison State Hospital. They lived in Indianapolis, IN. I
have all the prison and hospital records and newspaper clippings which
contains lots of information and was very interesting to read.
My father never told me much about my grandfather, and now I know why.
