Recently, I have been in position to help other researchers, in that I have
information that they want, or need.
Knowing that sometimes you have to give to receive, I forwarded the
information to them. Some of it involving complete lines, as I have them,
dating back 2 or 3 hundred years...
Most responded with a thank you, and a promise to forward what I had asked
for in return.. Usually dates for names that I already have, or names and
dates of their siblings. (The correspondent's brothers and sisters,) and
their parents. Or, perhaps information on collateral lines of their family,
such as their wife/husbands line..
And, that is the last I heard from them...What went wrong here? Am I wrong
to expect, or desire, to obtain the promised info? Should I have asked for
the info that I needed, and then forwarded the info that they need, after I
received.
A reminder... If you do not follow-up on promises you make in order to
obtain your information, you probably will come off of the mail list of the
other person.
THINK OF THE INFORMATION THAT YOU MIGHT MISS OUT ON IN THE FUTURE...
