Dear Shelley: Yes, the route you describe to Owen County is the one my ancestors took. My
question concerns Jacob Hilsabeck of Winston-Salem, NC, and his son John.
Jacob was a Revolutionary Patriot, having served as Private for a number of years in the
North Carolina militia during the Revolutionary War. Jacob was born (PA) 7 Jul 1763 and
died 11 Oct 1848 in Stokes Co. His wife, Eva Maria Fiscus (m. 1781) was born 19 Aug 1762
in Rowan Co, NC, and died 27 May 1835.
I'm trying to prove the connection to Jacob's son John, b. 9 Apr 1791 in Stokes
Co, NC, died 4 Apr 1847 in Owen Co; John moved to Owen Co with his family (wife Anna
Catherine Fulk and a dozen kids) between 1828 and 1830. John and Anna Catherine were
married in Stokes Co on 11 Aug 1814, while Anna Catherine was born 30 Aug 1791 and died 4
Sep 1865 in Marshall Co, IA -
but I have no records on John and Anna to support any of these dates.
Joseph T. Hilsabeck was a son to John and Anna Catherine, b. 13 May 1816 in Stokes Co, and
died in Iowa.
What I'd like is to be able to prove that John Hilsabeck was indeed a son to Jacob.
What a nice offer, and I hope it generates lots of list activity!
Happy Holidays,
Elizabeth Chain

Subject: [INOWEN] My Christmas gift
My Owen County ancestors came from Ohio, but there was also a group of
people who migrated from Winston-Salem, NC to Owen County. I live in
Winston-Salem and I work near the main library which has a genealogy
section. So, as my Christmas gift to the list, I'll try to find
information on some of these people.
