Hi, Debbie is right, winter is the time to post on this list! In my experience these
listmembers are THE BEST! and I'll take another turn to post
Here are some of my family surnames that are connected with Owen County:
HILSABECK, FISCUS, ARNEY, WINTERS, SPEAS/SPEACE, ELSBERRY, FULK/VOLK, BOYLES, HARTMAN,
KIGER/GEIGER, HUDSPETH, STEPHENS.
Right now I'm in the process of collecting information on my HILSABECK and ELSBERRY
ancestors who fought in the Revolutionary War, as I fill out my application for DAR
membership.
To those of you who have never considered joining a hereditary society, let me tell you my
reasons: I met another HELSABECK/HILSABECK relative on this website, we discovered we both
live in Phoenix, and she was already in the process of joining DAR. I attended a meeting
with the thought of doing honor to my ancestors - and I discovered a fun group of women,
and now my mother and I are joining DAR together. We look forward to the monthly meetings,
and to seeing our relative.
I'm interested if others of you have considered joining DAR, or SAR, or DUV (daughters
of Union Veterans) or any of the many other societies.
