NATHAN F. LIVINGSTON
At his home in White Hall, Clay Township, Owen County, Sunday morning
Nathan F. Livingston died of brain trouble after an illness of three weeks,
aged 70 years, 11 months and 29 days. The deceased was born Setpember 12,
1827, in Scott County, Virginia, and was the sixth son of Nathan and Mary
(Fulkerston) Livingston. When he was three yeras old his parents came to
Indiana and located in Monroe County and at the end of eight years moved to
Owen County. Here the old people died and here Nathan has sinced lived,
with the exception of a few months spent in Greene County. His father was
a miller and though young Livingston was reared upon a farm he spent much
of his time around his father's mill. He was educated in the neighboring
schools and June 12, 1855, was married to Elizabeth Neill who born him
twelve children, Sarah Jane, an infant not named, William N., John E.,
Elmer E., Mary L., Charles G., Cora A., Henry A., Elizabeth E., Ada C. and
Winnie M. In 1868 he was elected justice of the peace and was almost
continuously re-elected to the office. He owned a snug little farm and a
residence in White Hall where he conducted a drug and notion store. He was
a Democrat in politics, a good citizen, a kind neighbor and a loving
father, and after a long life of activity in this world has gone to his
eternal reward on high.
