ANN ELIZA COOPER
Ann Eliza Cooper departed this life at Bloomington, Indiana, on Friday
morning, August 1, 1902, at the residence of her nephew, James N. Cooper,
while on a visit there, after an illness of about six days duration.
She was born in Wayne County, Kentucky, April 13, 1820, passing her
eighty-second anniversary (about six illegible words) her father died young
and when she was (illegible) years old her mother came to this state
bringing her family, the deceased and two brothers, John and Frederick
Cooper, both deceased, with her.
The family settled on a small farm not far from Freeman in Clay Township
where the mother remained until her death, the deceased continuing to live
with her. For about eight years prior to her death deceased, who was never
married, made her home with J. C. Robinson and wife here in Spencer. Mrs.
Robinson being her niece.
Miss Cooper united with the Little Flock Regular Baptist Church in Clay
Township in 1848 or 1849 and was a most faithful and devoted member and
attendant of that church until her detah. It was the rule of her life to
be found in her seat, if at all possible, at every service, and she did not
permit distance, the infirmities of age, or any obstacle possible to
surmount to keep her away. Her piety was not noisy but deep and
sincere. If she ever did an act harmful or shameful, it is not known, and
if she ever omitted to perform her full duty to God or her fellow creatures
that, too, is not known...
She was buried at noon last Saturday at the old Livingstone grave yard
among many relatives who had gone before. Elder Thomas Mitchell conducting
a brief service and J. C. Robinson adding some remarks concerncing her life
and character....
