Listmembers:
I have been wondering for quite some time just what has become of our tremendous
researcher exchange base. This time last year we were having 62 posts a month and prior to
that we even reached over 100.Most recently we have dropped down to about 10 a month.
This list used to be one of the more active ones around and now we are just barely
there.
We have recently had many new subscribers who must think that this is just a dead list.
I have spoken to some of you on the phone and realize that with jobs and other obligations
your attention to researching has taken a back seat, but I know I haven't talked to
more then about 6 of you and we have upwards of 234 subscribers on the list.
Yes, I do understand that posting to the list is not mandatory, but it is a great resource
and I hate to see it disappear. These mailing lists are similar to television shows, if
they seem to not be popular then the space can be used for another list that is more
active and needed.
I also realize that as you research, your ancestors move from an area and you no longer
have the need to research there. However, with the number of subscribers on this list, I
assume that many of you still have ancestors unfound in the area.
I know with the creation of the Sweet Owen Website many previously unanswered queries have
been answered with the data posted there. I never meant however for that to replace this
list and its exchange of info between researchers. My goal was to provide an ADDITIONAL
resource and in relation to the previous paragraph, the website is receiving over 100
visitors a day, so I know there are active area researchers.
I know that with the recent resurgence of viruses, many of you are reluctant to post--this
is easily gotten around if you are just careful about opening mail with attachments if you
are not expecting them. It is not a reason to just stop posting.
FOR NEW SUBSCRIBERS TO THE LIST:
This is a potentially active list folks
There are people "out there"
If any of you are interested in making a post concerning your research, simple create a
posting stating who, what and when you are searching and send it addressed to:
INOWEN-L(a)rootsweb.com
someone will hopefully respond to it.
FOR LONG STANDING SUBSCRIBERS:
Lets hear from some of you. This is the time of year that people will be out checking
cemeteries and perhaps able to assist you, but not if they don't have information to
go on.
If they are not out checking cemeteries due to the gas price increases, this list makes an
even more economical resource!
Again, I understand that this list is not an obligation, but I would hate to see it
dissolved and replaced due to inactivity.
