I am trying to find some information on ABRAHAM SNODGRASS. I believe
he was from Washington County, Virginia. There is an ABRAHAM SNODGRASS in the 1830
Washington Co., VA census listed as of 30 and under 40.
There is an ABRAHAM SNODGRASS in the 1840 Owen Co., Indiana Census listed as of 40 and
under 50. ABRAHAM H. SNODGRASS was issued a land patent in Owen Co., Indiana 3/30/1837,
and another 9/10/1838, and in Pulaski County 4/10/1848.
An article on Harrison Township in Owen Co., IN states: "In the year 1834-1834 (this
maybe a typo), ABRAHAM SNODGRASS started a distillery on the Bailey Farm and shortly after
moving it to Taylor township. Another distillery was run by Nicholas Devore in the
northwest corner of the township for five or six years."
I am trying to determine if he had some connection to THOMAS C. HUTTON who moved from
Washington Co., VA to Owen Co., Indiana about the same time. THOMAS C. HUTTON was issued
a land patent in Owen Co., IN on 3/20/1837.
Also, moving to Owen Co., IN from Washington Co., VA about the same time were JOSEPH
SNODGRASS & ELEANOR HUTTON SNODGRASS.
Thanks for any possible help,
