I did a search at
Ancestry.com on the 1880 census and couldn't find him
using just the soundex last name of Criss and checking the six pages that
showed up. Then I did a search of just "Andrew" in Owen county and input an
age of 16, 17, and then 18, with very few hits. There was a marriage record
referenced:
Title: Index to Marriage Record 1850 - 1920 Inclusive Volume I
Letters A to J Inclusive
Record Location: Owen County, Indiana
W. P. A. Original Record Located: Compiled by Indiana Works Progress
Administration 1939
Spouse 1: Andrew Criss
Spouse 2: Sarah F Perkins
Marriage Date: 22 Jul 1883
County: Owen
Book: 31
Original Source Page: 525
Perhaps Andrew came from another county (or state) and settled in Owen
upon marriage?
Good luck!
Alison Scott
(related to Mary Criss Long of Owen County, wife of John Jacob Long,
mother of John Calvin Long)

Subject: [INOWEN] Andrew Criss
According to the postings for the German reformed Cemetery, Andrew
Criss
died Aug. 31, 1884, aged 21 years 21 days. I thought he would be easy to
find in the 1880 census via
FamilySearch.org, but he did not pull up.
Anyone know whose son he was?
