I spent the week end in Spencer Co. What a great trip! First of all My cousin
coming from ILL and I coming from Ohio had decided to meet at Mc Donalds. We
both pulled into Mc Donald's at the exact same minute! We went to the library
and found two probate files! Have a new name to research now, ALLOWAY. We
didn't have much time before the library closed. One probate file I didn't
see much of but have ordered copies. next we went to the Spencer County home
and seen where Grandmom was taken at the age of 3 in 1999. Her mother had
remarried and seems (when I say seems like, that's what we think happened)
the husband may of taken Grandmom and her sister Sadie to the home against
Sarah Ollie's will.So sarah's children never knew each other. I have a letter
from Sarah Ollie trying to find the girls in 1914. Seems she is writing
behind her husband's back as she writes from Freedom Chirstian church instead
of from home. As some of you may know I have met on-line a new found
cousin.Bob. He is grandson of George which would be Grandmom's half brother
she never knew. So we called Bob and we got to the library at 9:05 the next
morning. Bob and his wife Cathy were waiting for us! The people in the
Spencer genealogy Library were as excited as we were! They took pics for us.
Poor women having 3 different cameras at the same time! After doing research
and lunch we headed to the Defore cemetery where our ggrandmother is said to
be buried with no marker. Bob showed us where he thinks she may be buried.
Well I am standing there looking at this big stone and the sun shone on it. I
said there's an S..A maybe a R under it I see O. I said here she is! Everyone
came to see and it sure was! It says MOTHER SARAH O. HUBBARD. The sun shone
just long enough for one pic and it was gone. And you couldn't see the
writing anymore! It was like Sarah was saying "HERE I AM!" Sarah wanted all
her children in her life and never got that. But 2 generations later here 3
of her grandchildren met and she got to say Hi. I think Sarah rested in peace
Saturday Night. We also found Freedom Chirstian church and the pastor was
again, like everyone we met just as excited as us! And there was an old desk
in the church. The Pastor says everyone says they don't ever remember it not
being there. Could this be where Sarah sat when she sent her letter off tring
to find her girls? Rest in peace Sarah Ollie Price/White/ Hubbard.
