Greetings Debbie:
I have just returned from out of country to find numerous emails from
you/your site and am DELIGHTED with all the "action" you receive as people
make specific requests regarding their ancestors. You have been so GREAT to
help me in days past, therefore, I desire to make a request.
Would it be possible to post a photo on your site to be sent to the
membership for identification?
I have diligently - with your help - tracked the Valentine Lyon clan
from Fluvana County, Virginia to Owen County, Kansas where Valentine Lyon is
buried on the Lyon Farm in Taylor Township, Owen, Kansas. He was the father
of 19 children (proved) by two wives.
His one son Hezekiah Harrison Lyon was in Owen county for some time
before he was in the Civil War under Sherman. He married 5 Oct 1865 in Owen
County - proof copy of marriage certificate.
Thru diligent digging, another photo has surfaced of Hezekiah Harrison
Lyon with his second wife Mary Melissa Wise and their six children and
spouses and grandchildren taken about 1912 in Fort Scott, Bourbon, Kansas
where they lived out the remainder of their lives. Also pictured are a
couple of his children by his first wife - a total of 16 adults, with 9
grandchildren. It is unlabeled. My desire is to label these people.
Would I be allowed to post this photo on your site with the names of the
children and their spouses - in hopes that someone "out there" would be able
to identify who is who?
Then perhaps this would lead me to living Lyon relatives who might know
where the Lyon clan originated. One biography of Valentine Lyon's children
by his second wife states that the Lyon family came originally from Nova
Scotia before 1748, landing in Charles County, Maryland. I have yet to prove
this.
Thank you for your consideration of this request - and for all the GREAT
GOOD your site does! I love reading the "success" emails you share as the
information is given, and have gleaned a few clues of where to else I should
look because of them.
Most cordially, Claire Field in Provo, Utah
