Wanted to let you all know that Betty Louise McCreery Summerlot passed away
on July 22, 2005. Her daughter, Linda Summerlot Bertram, is an avid
genealogist and researcher in Clay and Owen counties.

BETTY LOUISE SUMMERLOT
CLAY CITY – Betty Louise Summerlot, 75, of Greenwood, and formerly of Owen
County died Friday July 22, 2005, following an extended illness. She was
employed by Western Electric and worked in many different areas of the company,
namely on the Bell tone line, and also as a solderer and riveter. She retired
in 1979. She was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Denmark (Ind.) to Luther Paul
McCreery and Wilma Bernice Carr McCreery. After attending Patricksburg High School,
she married Donald Summerlot on Oct. 29, 1947. Survivors include her
husband; one son, Donald Steven Summerlot and his wife Jackie of Indianapolis; two
daughters, Linda Bertram and her husband Bruce, previously of Greenfield, and
Brenda Kay Hazlett and her husband Gary of Middletown; two brothers, Gerald
Max McCreery of Indianapolis and George Burton McCreery of Terre Haute; five
sisters, Ruth Walker of Spencer, Rosland Orman of Clay City, Carol Brown of
Riley, Barbara Newport of Freetown and Shirley Christianson of Greenwood; 11
grandchildren, Kimberly Lynn Maxwell, Laurie Marie Tyndall, Brian Allen
Bertram, Amanda Louise Wilson, Derrick Lee Shinn, Bradley Steven Summerlot, Kelly
Ann Hazlett; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy, Tony Wayne Summerlot; and one
brother, Donald Lee McCreery. She was a member of Beech United Methodist
Church. She was a strong Christian who loved to listen to gospel music and
read the Bible. Her family was a joy for her, as she spent much time with them
all, especially her grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake. Most notable
were her homemade noodles and apple dumplings. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday
[July 26, 2005] in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home Clay City. Burial will follow
in Beech Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday [July 25, 2005] in the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to
the American Cancer Society, with envelopes available in the funeral home.
