Reply to Vickie...
I found the Clay County Library in Brazil had an abundance of genealogy information and it was well worth my time to go there (it's been a few years however). In addition, so is the Vigo County Library in Terre Haute. Both of these counties have much Owen County information as well (along with Park and surrounding counties info). However, if you liver nearer Ft. Wayne....you can get the same info there but need to know what you're looking for exactly.
Clay & Vigo let you browse their genealogy sections so you run across stuff you wouldn't have thought of to look in...Ft. Wayne is more procedurally rigid, and larger, so it takes more time.
Just my own experience but something to ponder. I never had anybody at the Clay County Library tell me to buy a book - maybe you are referring to their Genealogical Society rather than the library - there's a big difference.

Found something else... I was looking for a much younger man.
Delano D. White Private Company G, Indiana Regt. Vol. War of 1861.
Resident of Coal City, 3 children under 16. Contracted Rheumatism,
lung and stomach trouble.
Enrollment of Soldiers, Their Widows and Orphans,
Owen County 1894
Transcribed from Original by Vivian Zollinger 1991
You may wish to write to the National Archives for Pension Records. It
is well worth the expense. They will do a search for free. They charge
$37.00 for the full record if they find it.... which they will since he
clearlyfiled for one. The pension records are usually packed with wonderful
genealogical material. It will list children under 16 with birthdates and
places.

Vickie,
The Library in Ft Wayne is a great place! But, so is Clay County
Genealogical Society in Center Point.
I am sorry you feel you can get no help at Clay County Genealogical Society!
I don't know who refused to help you or asked you to buy a book! If you live
close enough to drive there to do Clay County Research, then please do so!
They have a large collection of materials for you to check and the Volunteers,
although overworked, always try to assist researchers. They really don't have
that many books available for purchase. They do charge $10 per hour for a
search, but I can tell you honestly that I have put as much as 3 hours research
into a $10 job! The other ladies are the same way. The Library is self
supporting. We must charge for the work we do for others by mail. There are no fees when
you go to the Library except for copy fees.
Yes, I have a connection to the CCGSI. I have been a member for over 20 years
and expect to give whatever time I can to that Library. It does a great
service to the Community.

Thank you to everyone that answered me concerning Clay CO. Here is my story:
my grandmother Maude White b 17 Oct 1896 (Indiana State Board of Charities)
put in Owen Co. Home in 1900.
Mother Sarah Ollie Price b 1874 Clay Co?
Father Thomas B Price b 1845 KY
Mother Lydia C Clawson
Father Delany/Delana D. White b 1847 Clay Co.
In 1900 in Maude's records Ind State Board of Charities list father dead,
Mother unknown, stepfather Adam Hubbard. later in her records I found a scribbled
note mother ____ Price. Then I have a letter from Sarah Ollie where she was
trying to find the girls. (Grandmom had a sister Sadie White, Sarah [who goes
by Ollie Hubbard) says Sadie name was changed from Pricilla? can't make it out
for sure.
What happened to Delany? I know he married 3 times SP 1 in Owen Co. to
Amanda Hare. Did they have any children SP 2. was Octavia M. Pilant Clay Co. SP 3
was Sarah Ollie Price Clay Co. Any infromation on what happened to Delany or
record of birth for Maude White, or any thing on Sarah's Father or Mother would
be greatly appreciated. Again thank you for all your help.

Anyone know anything about Clay Co? Would I be better off going to library in
Fort Wayne? I think a lot of answers lay in Clay Co for my family but when
you ask them a question they reply buy this book. You don't know if your answer
is in the book and I just don't have the money to buy a book I don't need. I
am not putting Clay Co down, it's just I live pay check to pay check and don't
have extra money.

Greetings: I am researching Sink, Zink, Myers, Pritchard, Pritchett in Owen, Morgan and Putnam Counties, IN. Specifically, I seek the parents of Eli Sink b. 1824 Indiana, m. Amanda Pritchard, 6 Feb 1851 in Owen County, IN (her father Andrew Pritchard, mother Louisa Eliz. Myers). Eli died while visiting relatives 18 Mar 1894 in Alaska IN and his remains were shipped home to Terrell, Kaufman County, TX.
It is likely that Eli Sink had at least two brothers, Paul Sink who is listed on 1880 Morgan Co. IN census. Paul died in Kaufman Co. TX 8 Jun 1894, no mention of family in local obit.
The other possible brother is Jesse Sink, (note that Eli changed spelling to Zink in Texas) although phonetically, Zink in German is pronounced "TSink". Jesse married Hannah Beck, whose father was involved with the Mercer Colony in Texas and this marriage was to acquire land in Texas. Jesse and Beck divorced shortly after their arrival in TX and no further record of Jesse Sink is found.
It is possible there is a connection with Elmsley, Simpson and Mary Sink, but as yet undocumented. Thank you for any assistance with the above. David Boyd, Plano,TX
Listmembers:
I would like to thank everyone who responded to the query I posted regarding
the cemetery records. Many great comments were posted.
As some of you have mentioned, I was indeed looking for records of the unmarked
graves as I have in the past not found someone in a particular cemetery but
later received info from someone that the actual cemetery records did record
some of the persons as buried there although unmarked.
Debbie Jennings
ps.
Anyone searching also in Morgan or Putnam counties should send me their
surnames for posting on the website registries.
Also those of you who haven't listed their on the Owen registry as I know there
are some new people on our list lately.
Please specify which county of surnames they should appear on though.

I think that most Cemeteries in larger towns or communities had or have a
Cemetery Sexton. [city or twp. official]......or the Churchs affiliated with a
Cemetery have records, but the older little country cemeteries if they had
records, have been lost as time went by or were never really kept well to begin
with. Some records destroyed by fire etc.
I read with glee the Cemetery records a couple years back for the Riverside
Cemetery in Spencer........they held info on even why the person died in some
cases.........so it just all depends on what and where you are
looking.......not the answer you wanted to hear I'm sure, but seems to be that way, so far in
my searching anyway.
When in doubt........call a local funeral home to find out who you might
contact in that city to find out that info........they will most likely know,
because of the arrangements they have to make to open graves at the cemetery...
.....someone has to be in charge and have records for that.
