I'm looking for information on Elisha Childress, b. Dec. 4, 1791 and d. Jan 4,
1872. He first was found in Owen County on the 1830 census, and from the 1850
census, I know his wife's name was Suzanne. Some on-line trees list his wife
as Suzanne Arney, and some as a Coomer. I have been unable to find any
records to verify who she was. The Arney name sure fits, as both families
came from Surry Co., NC, but I haven't been able to link her with any of this
group. Her tombstone gives her dob as Oct. 30, 1804, and her dod as
3-25-1868. Both were buried in the Dutch Bethel Cemetery in Franklin Twp.,
Owen Co., IN. If any Arney researchers have any information on Suzanne, I
would really appreciate any assistance!

I'm relatively new at this:
George Washington Pollard and Eliza Jane Hord Pollard are my
gggrandparents. I have lots of info on Eliza's family. However, I
cannot find George's parents' names.
They are listed in the Owen Co marriage index - m 14may 1848. Also in
the Owen Co marriage index, there is an Elizabeth Pollard who married
Stephen Brown 20mar1845, and an Isabel Pollard who married Rufus Wood
30may1842. I'm hoping George, Elizabeth and Isabel were siblings.
George and Eliza are in the IN 1850 census in Jefferson Twp, and later
settled in Ashmore, Coles IL.
Eliza died in IL in 1870, and George is in the 1880 AR census in
Arkansas Co with their youngest son.
Elizabeth and Stephen are in the 1850 IN census, then the 1880 census,
in McLean Co, IL.
Isabel and Rufus are in the 1850 IN census, then the 1880 census, in
McLean Co, IL.
Also, in the census records George shows his birth state as NC, and his
parents' birth state as VA.
Elizabeth shows the same state info.
Isabel shows that she was born in NC, but lists her parents' birth state
as NC, not VA.
Do the marriage records list the parents' names?

If some one does have access to Mortality Index 1860, 1870, I too have a

Please look for John G. MYERS and Silas MYERS who do not appear in the 1870

an earlier comment stated that probate can take a long time.
that is really true.
Upon the death of the testator, or grantor, if a trust, and upon the filing
or inception of administration of such a will or a trust, if the heirs or
beneficiaries challenge or contest the will or the administration, probate
can take decades, at worst..
even today, this can happen.
I have a marriage IN MY DATABASE for:
Robert McCullough b. 1826 married to Tamer HAMRICK on June 22, 1845 in Owen
county.
This couple is found living in the household of William Hamrick, whom I
presumed to be the father of Tamer in the 1850 Owen county census in Taylor
township.
HOWEVER...
In checking the pre 1850 marriages, I find a listing for:
Robert McCullough married to Polly McCORD on June 22, 1845 in Owen county.
In thinking perhaps that Polly was a nickname for Tamer and that maybe there
was a first marriage to a McCORD, I checked that. There is no record.
There is also no listing for the Robert McCullough/Tamer Hamrick marriage.
This couple however is buried next to each other in the Mannan Cemetery.
Anyone researching the families of HAMRICK or McCORD that could shed some light
on this would be much appreciated.

I'm looking for the family of William H. SCOTT b. c1878 Freedom, IN m.
Ida KESLILNG [sp] bef 1903. I found them living in Franklin Twp on the 1910
census with 4 daughters, two of which I could not read the names, others were
Martha H. b. 1907 and Annabell b. 1910, also living with them at the time was
her father Samuel W. KESLING b.1840 IN.
William H. was the son of William W. SCOTT b. ca1839 OH and Mary Ann
JACKSON b. 1840 IN.......this family lived their whole lives in Freedom,
IN....but I can not find their son William Henry and Ida after the 1910
census? Does anyone connected know where they went?

If so, I am searching for the death of the following woman:
Elizabeth Evans; last known location was Jackson township in home of Arabian

states that she died in 1859 and I am trying to verify this.

I have read somewhere that when a person dies the probating process normally
appeared in the next monthly session of court after their death. Therefore you
can determine an approximate month of death based on the month that the probate
takes place.
Does anyone know anything definite about this?
Debbie Jennings
Robert McCullough had nine children; 2 males and 7 females.
These appeared in the 1840 census for Montgomery township, Owen county.
Although appearing as only tally marks in the 1840 census; all of the children
of Robert McCullough are named in a land transaction on March 14, 1853 where
they all collectively sign a bill of sale to William Guinn for their portion of
land. All children are named along with their spouses.
These same coordinates of land are mentioned in a land purchase by their father
Robert in 1836. There is no question that these are Robert's children and
Robert bequest to them as they are mentioned as his heirs.
HOWEVER...
using the same land sale document one is able to see just to whom and when they
were all married.
Robert's children appearing in the 1840 census and their later marriages. In
parentheses is the next time they appear in the census records AFTER 1840.
Mary R. married John Varvil on January 9, 1851 (1850, 1860 Gosport)
Elizabeth
Unknown Female b. 1810-1820
Adam married Mary A. Evans on May 22, 1845 (1850 Jennings twp.)
Nancy b. 1820-1825
Sarah b. 1820-1825
Margaret b. 1821 married Christopher Cain on February 25, 1849(1850, 1860
Gosport)
Hannah b. 1825 married John Cain on July 25, 1844 (1850, 1860, 1870 (montgomery
twp)
William b. 1829 married Elizabeth Cain on February 6, 1848 (1850)
Now here is the question:
Four daughters appeared in the 1840 census; 3 of them appeared to sign the land
transaction in 1853 so they were apparently alive in 1850.
These were Mary R. (who later married John Varvil in 1851); Elizabeth, Nancy,
Sarah and unknown female.
Where were these ladies in the 1850 census???
They don't show up in the readings of any of their brothers homes in the 1850.
They had to be living somewhere in 1850 as they all were alive in 1853.
Any help is appreciated.

I am researching Huffmans and Dyers. My Huffmans came from PA and I am not
familiar with these from Ky. or NC. I know my Dyers came from NC but cannot
place Catherine offhand. Hope this helps.
You mention John Clark may have ended up in Iowa. Do you know where? My
Huffmans from Owen Co. ended up in Iowa, Marion Co. They may have
travelled together or known each other.
