As I know that various persons are researching the DUNCAN/DUNKIN family
lineages; does anyone have any DUNCAN/DUNKIN that migrated into the Morgan
or Putnam county areas?
Most specifically a DUNCAN/DUNKIN that would have been residing in either of
these areas for the period of 1855-1856 or appearing in the 1860 or 1870
census of either of those counties?
I am searching for a household that contains:
both parents born in Indiana
a child born approximately 1856 named:
Mary Susan/Susan Mary/Mary S or any conceivable combinations
This listing may or may not contain other children.
Thanks for the help
Debbie
There are several different CARTER lines within the Owen county area; or
corrections what are currently believed to be "different" lineages.
They could in reality be the same line, which is what I am attempting to
find out by doing a complete surname search throughout all of them.
If any of you have any listings in your database for any persons who may
have married into the Carter lines, I would be most interested in exchanging
information with you.
The CARTER lineages I am most interested in were in the Morgan, Wayne,
Taylor and Montgomery township areas.
As I don't know exactly who does or doesn't fit, I am interested in obits,
news clippings, any documents (wills, etc) showing any
lineages/relationships.
Thanks
Debbie
Fellow Listmembers:
Is there anyone out there researching any of the following surnames within
the Owen county areas:
CARTER
GIBSON
HURT
HENDERSHOT
GANTZ
STAMPER
ARNETT
SINGLETON
HICKS
McDONALD
HUBER
KING
CROSSER
Any information on these lines would be helpful, they all connect with the
various CARTER lineages of Owen county.
Thank you
Debbie
I am seeking information on Charles H. Mallory, b. 1867, Gregg Twp., Morgan Co, IN. He was counted in the same location in 1870. The 1880 census found him in Harrison Twp., Owen Co., IN. Any info would be helpful.
Regards,
Bill Mallory

Thank you for your help! My Aunt is writitng a letter to Mr.Franklin. Ollie
was her Grandmother. This has meant so much to my 2 Aunts, to find their
mother's birth family. My cousin and I will be meeting in Ind in March, we
are going to visit the grave of our ggrandmother Sarah Ollie
Price/White/Hubbard. Can't wait! everyone has been so helpful and seems so
nice! My Aunt even now has plans to visit this summer.
Vickie
Also Ollie's first husband,Delana/Delany D White. His father Granville White
was born on Pulaski Co. Ky! Delana b Clay Co. In. He is listed as dead on all
Ind State records in 1899. This is the year Garndmom (Maude) and her sister
Sadie were abandoned at the poorhouse and made wards of Owen Co. Sure would
like to know what happened to him?
Vickie
In 1915 a letter was written to my Grandmother from her birth mother. Her
mother Sarah Ollie Price/White/Hubbard says she is living in Freedom and goes
to the Christian Church. She says she takes care of the church. Any ideas
what church this would be? Grandmom never saw the letter or her mother.
Thanks,
Vickie

Steubenville was a small community, no longer in existence. As far as I know the Lutheran Church was the only one there. The cemetery is still being used.
Rev. John F. Lautenschlager preached in several churches in the area. Most are no longer in existence.

The church is no longer there. It was removed probably in the 60 or 70s. All that remains is the cemetery. You might try the Owen Co. History and Genealogy Society at:
http://www.owen.in.us/owenhist/owen.htm
The church was started in 1856 by my great grandfather John Fredrick Lautenschlager. I do not know if any records exist.

After 2 years of research, our brick wall has come falling down hard! My
grandmother did not know she was adopted until she turned 18 in 1915. She
received a letter of guardianship from I'm guessing Owen Co. Stating she was
no longer a ward of the state since she turned of age. Her adopted mother
tore it up and never to spoken of again. The letter stated her father was
Thomas White and mother Olive. This was wrong, her father was Delaney D.
White and mother Sarah Ollie Price. So for 2 years I have researching the
wrong names. Recently my cousin who never done research decided he would
help. Well he found all Maude and her sister Sadie's records from the Indiana
State Archives, State Broad of Charities! From this we have her mother's name
as father was listed as dead. But found her marriage records so have his name
now. He was Delaney D. White and she was Sarah Ollie Price. So much
information has been pouring in fast! What a rush! You know the feeling you
get when you find something new, just think how it feels to find 2 sides of
your family at once! Love it.Have met on-line 3 new family members. And may I
add a special thanks to Roger Peterson from the Historal Society for all his
help. My cousin in Illinois and I from Ohio will met with Roger Peterson and
even with a man that shares the same G-Grandmother and will get to see her
grave in March. Can't wait. Thank you again to the Historal Society it has
been my dream to find Maude's birth family while 2 of her 13 children are
still living. So I thank you and Maude's 2 daughters thank you.
Thank you,
Vickie Stevens Fisher
Delana/Delaney D. White married Sarah Ollie Price 14/OCT/1893. Sadie White b
12/DEC/1894 Maude White (my grandmother) b 27/OCT/1896. Sadie and Maude made
wards of Owen Co. sometime before May 1899. Mother listed as ___ Price and
father listed as dead. Anyone have any information on when he died? I think
it must of been before July 1898 since Ollie remarried John Adam Wilson
Hubbard in Feb/1899 and had a son Homer b 21/April/1899. Thank you for your
help.
Vickie
Dear Vickie: Thanks for sharing this great story!
There are so many great elements to this tale: the thrill all of us can identify with, of the brick wall tumbling; the message that we should not neglect the contributions of new researchers, because it is possible to contribute significantly right away; the message again that the Owen County experts, such as Roger Peterson, are so knowledgeable and helpful.

Hello Doy,
I know that some, if not all the probate records are located at the Owen Co.
Public Library in Spencer.
The lady to get in touch with is Laura Wilkerson, who is in charge of the
Genealogy Dept. Her email is
lmwilker(a)owenlib.org The people there are very helpful and will make
copies for you. Owen Co. library
has the best genealogy dept. ever!! I don't have the street address for the
library but if you wanted to snail mail the info, you could probably send it
to Owen Co. Public Library, Spencer, IN 47460.
If what you need is at the courthouse, the telephone # for the Clerk's
Office is 812-829-5015.
I hope this helps you. I live away also, in VA, but have been to Owen Co.
once. We had a wonderful time there and spent the whole week in research!!
It was wonderful.
Good luck in your search,
