I have a scanned version of the class picture for the first grade at the
Freedom Elementary School for the class year 1924-1925. It includes my
father, Robert Felts. He is currently 81 and can recall the name of only
one classmate, Lester LINTON (sp). I'd be happy to share this with anyone
who contacts me at rjfelts(a)email.msn.com. There are 21 students and 1
teacher in the picture. The picture was taken by Harry Beck, a local
photographer.
My father was born in Indianapolis but spent a few years in the Freedom area
from about 1921 to 1925. He lived with his mother, Ruby, and her adoptive
parents Charles BRADBURN and Emma MESSICK (BRADBURN) somewhere near "the
Beck farm." I'm currently researching the MESSICK surname.

My computer is going to be moved out of the house for repairs, and it will
be gone about a week. (An unusual situation which I won't take the time to
explain. :o)
I don't want to miss the cemetery comments. Especially interested in the
McKee Cemetery. Is there any way you could forward that info to my daughter
at Phrelanzer(a)aol.com? Thanks very much.

Carolyn

I just wanted to let you all know that last week I spent a great time with
another list member Anita McEnulty (who is also a cousin) making the rounds
of some Owen and Morgan county cemeteries. We had a great time and a lot of
laughs.
Soon as I can I will pass along some of the info she gave me on the
cemeteries.

Searching for any info regarding Andrew EVANS who was born 9-28-1759 in
Mecklenburg county NC and died 12-5-1840 in Owen county IN.
He married Elizabeth FAIN about 1780 in Washington county TN.
Elizabeth FAIN born 7-29-1764 and died 10-4-1850-1859 in Owen county IN.
Andrew was also appointed Commissioner of Revenue for Pulaski county KY on
August 3 1799.The family lived there quite some time before migrating to IN
about 1817 where he took out land grants.
I have seen various pieces of info stating that the lineage back from Andrew
is:
DAVID--father
PETER--grandfather
LOT the II--born 1666
LOT THE I
But I also have a transcription regarding this family which refers to Andrew
as the young Andrew. And also makes mention that:
On Feb 9 1773 Andrew Evans and his wife Nancy of Bedford county VA made a
land grant of 347 acres to John Ward for 100 pounds.
This could not be the Andrew born in 1759 as he would only be 14 and Andrew
of 1759 married Nancy. So I am wondering if the parents of the Andrew born
in 1759 are Andrew and Nancy??
Any help in this puzzle is more then welcome.

Looking for info on John McCULLOUGH born June 17 1755 in Lancaster county
PA,(later to become York).
He was in the Rev War enlisting in July of 1776 in Chanceford twp of York
county in the company of Captain Ross.
He later re enlisted at Mecklenburg county NC in April of 1777 in the
Company of Captain Osborn. He later migrated to Carrabas county NC for 11
years, then to Cocke County TN, and to Pulaski County KY at which he lived
30 years. He finally settled in Owen county IN and applied for his pension
in the August 1834 term of Probate court of Owen county.
He died sometime between 1840-1850 in Owen county IN.
I am searching for any info regarding his parents, or a name for his wife as
he had 8 children and though his pension records are very detailed as to
migration he names no wife.
The children are:
Robert b. unknown
Elizabeth b.1791 m David Evans
Sarah b. unknown m Robert Hasty
Jonathan b. 12-15-1790 m Elizabeth Staton
Mary b. unknown m Enoch Evans
William b. unknown
Margaret b.unknown m James Modrell
Rebecca b. unknown m William Camp
All the children were married in Pulaski county KY.
The last three children were born in TN and the rest were born in NC.
I a guessing that his wife most likely died in Pulaski county KY
I have it in his pension papers that his father was also named John.
Would be interested in trading info with anyone who is following this line.
Thanks

I have an ancestor James BALDON/BOLDON who was born in Maryland and then
migrated with his parents to Nelson county KY. As an adult he migrated to
Owen county IN.
He became a Justice of the Peace there in the May 1834
session and performed many acts associated with the office, such as
marriages,wills, being admin for wills,
doing estate sales,etc.
He also was one of the founding fathers of the Little Mount Baptist Church
donating land for the building from his own property and also for the Old
section of the Little Mount Cemetery. He had massive land holdings from just
south of the Putnam county line extending to the Little Mount Church in
Wayne twp.
In the natural course of time he married(twice) his first wife Hannah TRUAX
dying in 1834. He remarried to
Matilda NUTTERFIELD after this.
Now I am wondering why a man who played various roles in the beginning
politics of a county would just
"vanished" somewhere between the 1850 and 1860 census.
There is no record, church record, burial, will on this man. Seems he would
have joined another church or at the very least had a will. The book of
History on Owen county states he died "about 1878". Does anyone have any
records on this man??

Stockton is about 2 miles NE of Coal City in Jefferson Twp. Only one or two houses there now. A Harris used to have store in Coal City.
John, Clay Co. IN
Hello,
I am researching my Harris family and found out my 2nd
great-grandfather, Jacob S. Harris, moved from Tuscarawas Co., OH to
Stockton, IN in Owen Co. in 1884. This information came from his obituary
printed, I think, in a Coal City newspaper in 1914.
Can someone please tell me what township Stockton is in and how far
Stockton is from Coal City?
Thank you very much,
Carla
