1840 Owen Co., Indiana, Jackson Township, page 116 -

Does anyone know of a directory of Indiana physicians that might help me
locate the county where Dr. John W. Mahorney practiced around the time of his
death [1891-1893]? He was born in Hendricks Co on January 13, 1857 but I
still haven't found his date and place of death. I could look for the
coroner's report since he was shot, if I knew which county.
I know his first practice was in Little Point, Morgan County, but he may have
moved after his first wife, Mary E. Smith, died around 1889. His 2nd wife was
Martha Ellen Fiscus from Coal City. They married in Owen on April 30, 1891.
Thanks.
Priscilla Normandy Greenwood
I'm also research the Long family. Did you have any of them in Iowa. That is
where my Long family came from. I haven't been able to trace them any where
else yet. but I'm only back to the Mid 1800's The family I'm tracing right
now is the Family of David B. Long and Elizabeth Atkins. If you have any
information on them or any that might be connected I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

This might be just a little off subject but in regards to all of you I see
posting with much frustration and getting no results, I thought some humor
was in order.
I saw this last year on another list and just laughed.
It relieved much of the tension and headaches(from the brick walls) so I
hope it gives someone a laugh also.
I have thought so very many times of writing an open letter as follows!
LETTER TO MY ANCESTORS
After spending a frustrating evening pouring over illegible handwriting in
badly damaged and out of focus parish registers - and still NOT finding my
relatives, I thought it was time to send an open email (at
www.ofcoursethereisaHeaven.com) to all my "Upstairs" relatives who have
gone to Heaven (99% of them) or the Other Place (1%). The text follows.
(Feel free to insert your own relative's names where appropriate.)
"Dear __________________:
I am your _____________ and living in the early 21st century here
in___________, ______. I am sitting in front of a microfilm projector (I'll
explain what that is in a later email) in a special library run by the LDS
(nice people, but later on them, too) trying to decipher the small and
shaky handwriting of your parish's minister/vicar/curate (choose one). He
must have been either vertically challenged or had palsy - because it's
unreadable! At least I think it's your parish! I'm not even sure of the
decade.
Thanks for leaving such a good paper trail! (Sarcasm intended.) According
to family legend, you and your wife ___________ had _____ children, some of
whom lived beyond infancy. Yet not a single one was recorded in the parish
records! I can't even find your marriage certificate. You two WERE
married, right? Didn't you know that there would be legions of people like
me
fanatically spending their waking hours and small fortunes looking for any
and all traces of your lives? Were you just stubborn, couldn't afford the
fees, or not members of the Established (or any) Church?
You're wondering, "What's all the fuss, we're dead as doornails?" We're
not sure, but I think down here we're infected with the same disease:
Rootsus obsessionus. Of course, WE are going to leave better records for
our
descendants!
Anyway, I'm glad I was able to vent my frustrations upward. If I couldn't
do that, I'd have probably popped the obnoxious researcher next to me who
is right now translating an old parish record in German - and out loud, for
Pete's sake!
I have an idea.... When I'm "dead-on" (pardon the expression) to finding
the correct record, give me some sort of sign. Make the projector bulb
flicker twice. Or, if it must be done in the privacy of my home, I have a
Labrador Retriever. Talk through her. That will get my attention for sure.
Thanks for listening. I'll be better in the morning..... I'll be back at
the library tomorrow night for Round 14, so catch me there.
Sincerely,
Your ________________,

Listmembers:
I would like to propose a different type of Roll Call so to speak. If you
would like to participate that is great.
My theory is that alot of times you may have the names of the spouses,
parents and/or children. But what you might lack are simply "a birthdate, or
a death date or a marriage date".You might have in your files, everything
about "who" they were and "where" they were, but nothing on the specifics of
"WHEN" they were.
To make this as easy as possible place in the subject line either:
BIRTHDATES/DEATH DATES/MARRIAGE DATES
Since, this is a County Mailing List instead of a surname one it might also
help if you place something like: SMITH/DEATH DATES or
GREENWOOD/MARRIAGES DATES. This might make it easier to scan the messages.
Then just make a simple list of persons that you need this particular data
on. Nothing else, just a list of names(first and last please), of course if
this is a very common name put "child of" or some identifying item.
This idea may sound rather odd, but I am trying to generate some activity on
the list and help others at the same time. Others may have the dates you
need. If this works well, maybe later we can do one for "spouses" or
"burials".
One final note: Please,Please post these to the list and not to me
personally.
