Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

that gets converted to garbage when it passes through the list. See the

But it works.

It was called to my attention that the address given for locating early
Indiana Marriages didn't work. The site is the Indiana State Library and is
reached through Genweb. I link to it through,
www.usgenweb.org/statelinks-table.html then select Indiana from the table
of states. At the Indiana site select the Early Marriages link. You should
arrive there.
Michele,
Thank you for responding. Balder and Baldner are pretty close.
Thanks again,
Carla

In reply to Debra Carter request for look up of marriages between 1818 and
1837. Debra, Indiana State Library is online with Early Indiana Marriages
try www.ingenweb.org/ingen-state.htm then click on the link Indiana Early
Marriages.
I have a marriage with a family named Baldner that is pretty far back and in
Germany.

On the subject of the dates on the tombstones.
In my line I have a couple of ancestors that have the dates on the
tombstones as
19__, but there is also some doubt as to them being buried there as they
remarried after the first spouse died and the date was put on there.
So in some cases, the dates might not be filled in as they ended up being
buried elsewhere.

I would be MOST INTERESTED in taking over the IN-OWEN county mailing list.
I do have other surname lists so I know what is involved.
Please contact me.

I hadn't thought about this before but I'm sure it is the same with my mother.
My father died in 1964. Her name and 19-- is on the tombstone and she is now 86
and obviously will not die in 1900. My grandmother died in 1958 and her husband
had preceded her in death. We went to the cemetery where she is buried last
summer and there is no date of her death on that stone. Just her birth date and
19-- for the death date. I never noticed this before although I hadn't been to
her grave very often. Should we have notified them to finish the date or are
they supposed to do that automatically?

Hi,
As a point of interest I have heard several discussions on this issue. It
seems that there are two methods of correcting this. One involves a
low-cost acceptable solution (which I am unclear about); the other is said
to be in the neighborhood of $500 and is a better solution. I have zero
knowledge of either procedure - and wonder if the $500 answer is better
because it involves more $$$.
And while I am here - two items of interest to the list overall.
First, my experiment with subscription authorization was a bust in that it
did absolutely nothing to limit posting to the list. The only difference
that I was able to discern was that non-subscribers were identified as such
in the header of the message. Frankly, I think that is a separate option
that got turned on while I was experimenting with options.
Second, I have wandered into a personal high-demand area of my life. It
seems that it was a long time past that I first started this list. It has
been a place of joy and information for me --- and hopefully for all of you
who are members here. I would welcome anyone who is interested in taking on
the responsibility for INOWEN to contact me via email directly. It really
isn't an onerous task - and certainly not one which demands undivided
attention and operation. I simply feel that someone who has more time to
devote to the list could make it even more helpful than I have been able
to do.
If no one is interested - and no one complains about my ultra-light hand on
the reins I will continue pretty much as we have been doing - - - and thank
each of you for your contributions and support.

Hello,
I have the Balder surname in my family. There are Balders in Owen Co. My
Harris family came from Owen Co.
Anyway, I have a question that I hope somebody can answer. A 1900 census
said that my great-great-grandmother, Margaret Balder, was born in Germany.
Is Balder a German name? I have surfed the web for Balder and didn't find
anything.
Thank you very much!

In most cases I believe that you would have to notify the monument works
where you purchased the stone.....my mother passed away in 1991 and my dad
in 1995....when we orginally purchared the stone it was included in the price
and I believe that the funeral home is the one who contacted the monument
works for us. I suppose it could be done differently in different places,
but that is how is worked for me here in MI.

Hi Michele,
It is nice to see my distant cousin's name pop up. Does anyone on the list
know anything about Lydia Ann Grimes also known as Lydia Ann Ball? She is
my great-great grandmother. I am related to Michele through Lydia's husband
John Taylor, Jr. All I know is that it appears she came from the Guernsey
County, Ohio area and married John Taylor in 1843. If anyone knows, please
e-mail at
Harpist327(a)hotmail.com
Thanks for your help.

This must be fairly common. My father died in 1997 and is buried in Valhalla
in Bloomington. Mother's name is there with 19--. We have not yet discussed
this with the people who sold her the marker.
