TALK OF INCENDIARISM
Disastrous Fire at Paoli, Ind., Where There Is No Protection
Paoli, Ind., Oct. 3, Special Telegram-A disastrous fire broke out at this
place early this morning and swept over a quarter of the public square. The
origin in unknown, but there is talk of incendiarism with some facts in
connection which give color to it. The blaze probably started from outside
Kibler & Son's Grocery and spread rapidly each way. The following were
burned out:
Kibler & Son's, store; William Kibler, residence; Shaw & Green,
dressmaking; Mrs. Martha K. Andrews, residence; G. W. Toomas, general
merchant; T. B. Buskirk, law office; township trustees' office; H. M.
Miller, insurance office; Ben Stinson, residence; post office; American
Express; Dr. T. Lindley, office; J. E. Lindley, residence; Mrs. Rachel
Williams, residence and millinery store; White's barber shop; O. Stinson,
general store.
The loss is about $50,000 with $27,000 insurance, placed as follows.
Five times since 1873 sweeping fires have visited this place without any
sign of waterworks or fire protection.
