These listing were originally collected in the 1940s by the DAR Lost River
Chapter. Unfortunately a lot of the headstones had the writing eroded by
time and weather and the ladies were only able to decipher the stones they
could read. As with a lot of family cemeteries through out Indiana the use
of local limestone and gritstone was common and unfortunately they erode
fairly quickly, hence the vast amounts of stones that are indecipherable.
We're fortunate in Orange County to have had these dedicated women who
preserved the contents of these old stones, today many more are eroded to
the point of being illegible. So many of our sister counties didn't have
such dedicated historians and their pioneer and family cemeteries are lost
forever.

Subject: FINLEY CEMETERY
FINLEY CEMETERY Orleans Township Section 3, T2N R1E.Abandoned,
Can anyone tell me if the list that is online that's was transcribed by Tom
Agan is complete? I was hoping to find a Artemetia Mclane wife of Col.
William Mclane. I have dates for her b.04 April 1786 and d.18 August 1840
and
was told she was buried at Finley. Any help would be appreciated.
