Hurray!!! I finally made it onto this list! Have been trying to
subscribe since Dec. 20th, and am SO glad to see it happen. The
Orange Co., IN area has become a primary target for tracking my
elusive grandfather, and thanks to the wonderful site for this
county, I've already made some headway in my search.
I'm a 62 yr old retired newbie to genealogy, and I live in central
Penna., with my husband and Himalayan cat, Simmie. My sister,
Wanda Ketelhut, has been the genealogy guru in our family for
many years and she had run into a brick wall with her search for
our grandfather WELLS. He was a handsome devil and the
mystery surrounding him lured me into the search, too.
Thanks to the kindness of Linda Lockhart on the Orange Co. site,
we may have some concrete info on him. She checked the 1870
Orange Co. census which she has in book form and sent me the
following info:
Town of Orleans
Wells, Willis age 35 farmer b. IN
Nancy E. age 30 b. IN
Edwin age 12 b. IN
Louella age 10 b. IN
Lucy age 8 b. IN
James J. age 5 b. IN
Milton age 3 b. IN
Innis age 1 b. IN
Pearl age 1/2 b. IN
The boy, Edwin, age 12, IN, may be my grandfather. We have
family documents with three different names for him:
Edward Finley WELLS
Edwin Finley WELLS
Finley E. WELLS
b. approx. 1858-60 IN/IL, no death record.
I have more info on him, but don't want to make this post too long.
If anyone has any info or connection with this WELLS family I
would love to hear from you.
