Hi, my name is Velma Stice. Genealogy has been my hobby since the late
1970"s. I am a descendant of two families that settled early in Orange Co.,
IN
Joseph Crawford and his wife Betsy Brock settled in Orange Co. before 1820.
They lived in Orange Co until late 1830's when Joseph purchased land in
Greene County. As he was getting ready to sell this land he then died very
suddenly. His widow moved to Putnam County where she lived until her death
in 1841. Elijah Harvey Crawford married ca 1819 Mary "Polly" Sutherlin the
youngest daughter of Fendel and Lydia (Franklin) Sutherlin. Sampson
Sutherlin married Elizabeth Crawford 20 Mar 1820 Orange Co., IN. Thomas F.
Sutherlin married Mary "Polly" Crawford 7 Sep 1819 Orange Co., IN.
Owen Sutherlin married 17 Aug 1834 Orange Co., IN America "Milly" Crawford.
I am also interested the Fendel/Lydia (Franklin) Sutherlin families.

Subject: Welcome to the INORANGE-L list
Hi Folks,
Well I've ignored this list for far too long and for that I apologize.
But it appears that we have quite a few subscribers now and I guess it's
time to start doing something with our county list. So. . . . .
My name is Tom Agan and I'm both the list owner and coordinator of the
Orange County, Indiana USGENWEB site. My interest in Orange County starts
in
1815 when my paternal 4th great grandfather came to Southeast
township.
With
him were his wife and 4 children. Over the next 10 years 5
additional
children were born up to his untimely death in 1824. Over the next 6
generations these 9 children married into many Orange County families.
My areas of genealogical study include the Flicks, Beattys, Bingamans,
Cox, and Agans. From my study of these folks I ran across the Orange County
site about 2 years ago, when Vonda Heverly was maintaining the site. I
added
several items, including the 1850 census, during that first year. When
Vonda
decided to move on she asked if I would be willing to adopt our county
and
I
jumped at the opportunity. Since that time much has been added to the
site
and I hope I have done no harm.
While never living in Orange County myself, my father was born in West
Baden in the early 20s and I have "lived" with the stories of Orange County
all of my life. Until his retirement my uncle, Harold "Hoover" Agan, his
wife Judy Toliver Agan and their 4 children lived in West Baden. Harold was
the owner of a grocery store in West Baden - The Agan Market, from the
early
50s until the mid 80s. The store was on the main drag right in front
of the
West Baden Springs Hotel. My 1st cousin, Dara Agan Cassidy, and her family
still reside in West Baden.
My Great grandparents that lived in Orange County include Christian
Bingaman (Southeast township), Christopher Flick, Jr, Elizabeth (Granny
Wise) Reese Cox Harmon Wise, George Beatty, Christopher Beatty and William
and Mary Conley Agan. Through these people I have come to believe that our
county is one large clan. While I may not be directly related to other
families in our county, all of us have relatives that married into many
other families. Just like the great clans of Scotland and Ireland, we all
share a common history and homeland.
I currently live in a small town, Loughman, in Central Florida. A pipe
insulator by trade, I work with 2 of my brothers in a family business. I'm
single (hence the hours I spend on our USGENWEB site), 46 years young, and
enjoy fairly good health.
Well I've introduced myself. Why doesn't everyone take a few minutes
and
introduce themselves to the other members of our list and we can find
out
whose on our list. The purpose of this list of wide open. Normal rules - no
harsh words or libels (as if that ever would happen), and I think that's
the
only no-nos. Other than that lets see what we can make of this list,
hopefully one where we have fun, meet one another and share our common
heritage. Any suggestions would be more than welcome.
Sincerely,
Tom Agan
