Hi Folks,
Well it looks like it that time of year again and I'll be making my way northward
for the Beatty Family Reunion in the Springs Valley. The Reunion will be at the Village
Resturant this Saturday (July 21) from 10 am to 2 pm. Hopefully I'll be able to glean
something up while I'm in Orange County to post on the site when I return.
Speaking of the Beattys, Marvin has a new July newsletter online at:
http://beatty-newsletter.twobees.com/ .If you've never taken the time to read his
newsletters, they are wonderful. His first person accounts on the Valley reflect a time
when life was a little slower, this quarters reflection is about his early days as a
caddie at the French Lick Springs Hotel. There's also a continuing article from the
Memoirs of Fred Dillard. Fred was a teacher in the county for all of his life and he
recorded the life and times in the Newton Stewart area before the lake took the town
forever. Well worth your time.
I live near Orlando, Florida and work all over the state, driving about 500 miles a
week to work in both Orlando and Tampa. I'm so looking forward to a week in the
relative quiet of Orange County. I so love visiting the cemeteries and lands where my
ancestors lived, visiting friends and family, perusing the Courthouse and Annex, and just
relaxing, something I haven't done much of this past year.
Before I leave I just wanted to pass on one link. I love maps, the older the better
and here's a site that specializes in 18th and 19th century maps.
http://www.davidrumsey.com/ . Right now the site has over 4000 maps online, Might be worth
a minute of your time, it certainly was for me.
