I am in dire need of some assistance in obtaining old records, or at
least ruling out the possibility of getting them. I am able to place my
Doughertys there in Orange County according to military, bible and
marriage records but due to the 1840 census not listing names of
children I am having a challenge finding the parentage of my George
Da[o]ugherty (he is not one of the George's I find at the Orange County
site). Since I know George Washington Dougherty and Mary Moore were
married 11/11/1860 by David Osborn, Minister of the M.E. Church in Paoli
and I discovered this church was consolidated and now named the United
Methodist Church on 794 E. State Road 56 in Paoli, IN 47454, I wrote the
church back in July. I am in hopes that there is some record of the
marriage there (I was able to get a record from the Orange County clerk)
and then some births of children to George and Mary. From these entries
maybe I can luck out and find names of witnesses that could lead me to
any family members of George, hence more clues to parentage. I sent
another letter in October to the church with a SASE asking for them to
jot down a quick note letting me know they have received the last
request and will get back to me when they can but have not heard as of
yet. Anyone available to personally do visit to the church to see if
they have records for this M.E. Church? I may need a researcher at this
point in Orange County in order to tie up all these loose ends and
finally determine if I am able to specifically connect my George to the
Dougherty clan there. Anne-Marie panacea(a)toledotel.com
