Hi, I have Alexander Morris. I have not researched extensively and I suspect that
Alexander Morris in Orange County is the son of Alexander Morris found in Clark County,
first record 1809. I found this marriage:Fry, Catherine Riley, Abraham 10 Feb 1815
KentuckyWayne CountyDon't discount this because it is Ky. Granted, they had a lot of
kids in a big hurry. From research, there was a group of people who traveled from the
Monongahila, Va area thru Ky and into Indiana. More than likely, some settled out all
along the way and some continued on. For example, Alexander Morris's father,
Alexander, settled in Clark County, In, along with Jenkins and Nugent families. The 1820
census shows 4 adult children in the Clark Co. Morris household as well as younger
children. I believe these older children were MORRIS, ALEXANDER;MORRIS, ELISHA; MORRIS,
HARVEY, and MORRIS, JAMES and that they migrated to Orange County and bought federal land
patents about 1824. I suspect they were preceede!
d by Benjamin Morris and perhaps Abraham Riley. They all bought land in the Paoli area. I
see the court order permitting the sale was in August 1839. Elisha Morris purchased land
August 1, 1839. I can't tell whether it is the same property or near the Riley
property. Since Abraham died in 1821 and the land was not sold until 1839, I wonder if the
mother died shortly before the sale. Oops, got a little long-winded.Kate
