I would like to correspond with some of the other COX descendants from
Orange County.
My COX family arrived, I am told, in the 1830's. At least that is as early as
I have proof. Beginning with Zechariah/Zachariah b.25 Jan 1798, son of Samuel
Cox II, and Martha Cox.
He was in Williamsburg,KY. in 1820, 1 male, 10-16, 1 male 26-45. and 2
females under 10, 1 female 16-26 (so assuming that is 2 adults & 3 children)
He was listed in the 1830 census in Orange County, IN.with: 1 male under 5, 1
male 20-30 (he should be 32). 2 females under 5, 3 females 5-10, 1 female
15-20 (don't know who this is) 1 female 20-30.
Then in 1840 census has him in Orange Co. still as: 3 males under 5, 1 male
10-15, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 40-50. 1 female under 5, 2 females 10-15, 1
female 15-20, 1 female 20-30. He should be 42 at this time, wife unknown.
And he died 14 Oct 1843, either Orange Co. IN, or Livingston Co. MO, leaving
his wife (I think) and (9) nine? children. Wife's name unknown.
My Grgrgrandfather was born 12 Feb 1838 in Orange Co., so he could be one of
the 3 males under 5 that was listed. AND since I have never found any
evidence of a widow, she could have died during childbirth when he was born.
And I have been told Indiana didn't begin to keep records until the 1900's.
The only other siblings of this family are: (that I know of)
Malinda Cox b. 1825 VA
Samuel W. Cox b. 1826 KY
Nancy Cox b. 1829 KY or IN
Thanks,
Wanda Haines in Oklahoma
