Hi folks,
While doing some transcribing of old obituaries I came across this short article and
thought I'd passed it along.

Oleans Progress, December 16, 1897
C. A. Conder is certainly one of the biggest hearted men that ever lived in Orange
County, and about Christmas times he never fails to show the love in his heart for his
fellowmen. Yesterday morning he told his teamsters to hitch-up and put in a couple of days
hauling wood to the widow ladies of our city, giving them instructions where to deliver
the wood. He will deliver twenty-five loads of good wood to those ladies as a Christmas
gift. Upon delivering the wood the teamster hands the lady a neatly printed card, bearing
these words: "A Christmas Present from C. A. Crowder." This kind act will
gladden the heart of many a good woman in Orleans, and a credit of 25 loads of wood will
be entered on the great ledger above for the donor. Would that Orleans had many more such
men as Charley Crowder.
