I have discovered more information regarding the family of George WILSON and
thought I would share it here in hopes of making a contact with another
researcher.
George (sometimes with a W.) WILSON was born about 1805-1806 in Kentucky.
He married America BLACK on November 4, 1832 in Orange County, IN. A George
WILSON purchased land in Orange Co. in 1838--40 acres (NENE) in section 35
of Northwest Township. In the 1840 Census, George is listed in Orleans Twp.
with 1 male 5-10, 1 male 30-40, 1 female under 5, 1 female 20-30. May 1,
1848, George bought 44.45 acres (SWNW) in section 1 of Northwest Twp. The
1850 Census of Northwest Twp. shows George age 45 as a Blacksmith with wife
Mary (America) born in OH age 37 (born 1813). Children were Alexander age
17 (born 1833), Margaret age 12 (born 1838), and Amanda age 10 (born 1840).
In 1852, George Wilson purchased 44.43 acres (SENE) in section 2 of
Northwest Twp. The 1860 Census of Northwest Twp. shows George (F.?) Wilson
with wife America. Also children Amanda E. age 18(?), Susan age 13, John A.
J. age 9, and Jeremiah age 5.
Also in the 1860 Census, we find George's daughter Margaret living with
Edward Wilson age 50 also a blacksmith and born in KY. Edward Wilson had
also purchased land in Northwest Twp. next to George. Edward married Betsy
Hall in 1829 in Orange Co. Edward appears in the 1830 census but not in the
1840 census. Betsy must have died for in 1841, Edward married Margaret
Black (possibly a sister of America Black George's wife). Margaret Wilson
had married Asa Gibbons in 1858 and he is listed as living with Edward
Wilson in 1860 also. The household lists:
Edward Wilson age 50 born KY
Margaret Wilson age 51 born KY
Robert Wilson age 17 born IN
America E. Wilson age 12 born IN
Visli Wilson age 11 born IN
Laura Wilson age 7 born IN
Asel (Asa) Gibbons age 20 born IN
Margaret Gibbons age 22 born IN
Welmet (Female) Gibbons age 8 months born IN
William Gibbons age 10 born IN
I believe Edward and George to be brothers. America Black Wilson died
between 1860 and 1870 because George married Lucinda WININGER SCARLETT
(widow of Abram SCARLETT) on May 19, 1870. In 1871 Lucinda and George
became the parents of twins born March 11. The twins were Olive Pearl (who
married Thomas WININGER) and Benjamin who lived in Anderson, IN in 1925.
Who were the parents of Edward and George Wilson? In the 1820 census there
were 15 Wilsons in Orange Co. Only 3 of these had male children George's
age: Nathaniel B. in Paoli Twp., John in Greenfield Twp., and Jasper in
Northwest Twp. I would like to correspond with anyone researching these
families.
