I just subscribed to the list and hopefully somebody can help me with two
LONG problems.
Sarah Catherine Long b 19 Dec 1845 Harrison Co., md 19 Oct 1863 Orange Co to
Joseph F. Faulkner; d 14 Mar 1917 Paoli. According to her death
certificate she was the daughter of Charles Long and Anne Elliott. I have
been unable to find this family in any census. The first information that
I found on him was from School Enumeration for Southeast Twp. 1846 submitted
on your great site by Linda Lockhart., which lists Charles Long as the head
of household with James T Elliott age 7, so I assume this is the right
family. A descendant of Joseph & Sarah Catherine Faulkner states that
Sarah Catherine was a Native American. I have no confirmation of this and
her death certificate gives her race as white.
I am also trying to find information on Levi Long, who may be connected
(brother?) to the above Charles. Levi was born abt 1824 IN and married two
sisters of the above Joseph Faulkner, in Orange Co: He md (1) 15 Oct 1846
Elizabeth Jane Faulkner (26 Nov 1826 - 1 Sep 1853, bur. Harned Family Cem,
SE twp) and (2) 14 Nov 1854
Sarah C Faulkner (abt 1830 - 27 Mar 1865, bur Harned Family Cem). I did
find Levi on the 1850 & 1860 censuses of Orange Co in Southeast Twp. As far
as I know there was not any surviving issue from either marriage. I do not
have any further information on him unless he is the Levi Long who served in
the CW in Co. U 59th Ind Inf (Report of the Adjutant Gen of the State of
Indiana). In Mich (where I live) there is a multi-volume set of what is
commonly called "the Brown Books" which lists all the CW volunteer along
with the date & place of enlistment, AGE at enlistment, & discharge or death
information. Is there anything similar in Indiana? Or does anyone know
the enlistment area for Co. U of the 59th?
Thank you. Ann Faulkner, Harrison Twp. MI
