Wonder if one of them is the old National trail? It ran through our little
town here in so/central IL... believe it did start (at least) in Ohio.

I've read in one of the Orange Co histories that French Lick Indiana in
Orange Co was named for the trail, that ran west to St Louis and that
this trail was wide enough for 16? heads wide, 16? horses?, or something
like that, if you look at a map of Indiana you'll see that a lot of
movement went to Washington Co, and then to Orange Co, on to Martin Co,
some seemed to have gone on north to Morgan and Parke Co's, but going
straight west took you to Washington, IN and on to Vincennes, IN which
in the early days was the capital of Indiana. It looks like it was
straight from there to St Louis.

Of course all you easterners are spoiled by all that flat land, not like
Calif where I have to go around mountains all the time, there always
seems to be one right in the middle of where I want to go.
