There was quite a bit of quality entertainment in the valley in the 1920s.
The hotels brought in the best of national vaudeville acts for the enjoyment
of their guest. Here's a sample of one vaudeville comic (sounds like my
doctor)

Spring Valley Herald (January 23, 1922)
KILLING THE GOLD-EGGED GOOSE
Roger Imhof, the vaudeville star tells of a rural doctor who sent his
son through medical college and after the boy had received the cherished
diploma, turned all his business over to him.
"Now, my boy," said the senior physician, "you're a regular doctor
and
I'm going on vacation. You take over the practice while your mother and I go
to Florida for the winter."
The old folk disappeared and did not return until spring. The ambitious
young doctor began practicing on his father's patients and prospered. When
the old man got back to the office in the spring he found the office crowded
and the son going big.
"Well, boy, how goes it?" the senior doctor inquired.
"Fine, father, fine!" was the reply, "I've had great luck. For
instance,
dad, listen: I cured old Mrs. Mundy's indigestion in two weeks."
"What! What's that? You cured old Mrs. Mundy's indigestion! Say are you
crazy? Her indigestion paid your way through college!"
