Notes for AQUILLAS SPEAKS:
History of Campbellsburg, Indiana 1849-1949, Written by Claude E. ("Gene")
Cook, Indexed by James Bolding, Published by Washington County Historical
Society, 1989. P 373 "Another Traditional soldier of the Revolution
supposed to be buried at Cavetown [the Methodist burial ground donated by a
Jean married to a Roberts that most of the Robert's and their kinfolk are
buried in, named such because of the preponderance of earth caves in the
area, according to Robert's descendent E.A. Davis.] Again, no record found
of a person of this name [probably born in VA or MD?] who was old enough to
have served in the Revolution. The 1860 census of Brown Township enumerated
a man of this age, living with Edmund and Lucinda Speaks Jean, who was born
in Maryland, but not until about 1785. He was later declared a pauper and
became a ward of the county on December 12, 1861. A person of this name was
married in Harrison County, Indiana to Jane Boston on May 29, 1816."
