Yes this is my uncle. He was named after the Richard Nathaniel I cannot find. The
mysterious Richard was born 17 Oct 1840, possibly in Rising Sun, Indiana. [All I have is
the date and Rising Sun doesn't seem to have much information for that period of time;
or at least I haven't found the right person to help me there]
Then his father Israel, who was a doctor, moved across the Ohio with his wife Ann Eliza
Schooley Evans, to practice there for the rest of their lives. They had at least one child
born in Kentucky. THey were a ferry ride across the river from the "big" city,
so I'm sure they went there often to shop. In fact, Ann Eliza had a heart attack and
died on the streets of Cincinnati. She and several of her children are buried in Spring
Grove.
Israel had always planned to be buried with Ann, but his second wife had other ideas and
had him buried with her in her father's tomb [he was also a doctor] almost a block or
so from where Anne is located. I thought that was sad, but have no idea of what to do
about it!.... Anyway I've located most of their children but have no luck with this
Richard. I would Love to know if he ever married or not. There could be a while nother
family of relatives out there. If he lived to be one hundred that would make his death in
1940... but I suspect it was before that!
All those Evanses were good singers and he may have sung at the local level. But whether
that was Cincinnati or Ludlow or Bromley I have no idea. The family lived in Bromley just
a few blocks from Ludlow and Israel had his doctor's office there. Not exactly what
connection they had with Covington, but all the records seem to be located in Covington
now. Then there is always the possibility that he is buried in Hillsboro. That is where
Israel was from and they had very strong family connections there.
I've written a paper on all the Evans from this line who became physicians. It's
too long to publish in a journal and not long [or interesting enough] for a book. But,
believe me, there were a lot of them!!!
I really appreciate your taking the time to look for this for me.
Renee
