I am interested in any info on Myers and Surber. I descend from Myers family who were
early settlers in 1800s in what is now Ohio County. (I am aware that it was spun off from
Dearborn Co. at some point). Myers line (Jacob/Hannah, etc.) apparently operated the
Black Horse Tavern in Aurora/Vevay/Rising Sun area, and many of these folks are buried in
"Murray Cemetery." Jacob and Hannah's son, John Myers, married Barbara
Surber and in 1833 had son, William Van Buren Myers in 1833, b. near Rising Sun, who is my
great grandfather. He everntually moved to KS in 1860s. Surbers came from PA/Shenandoah
Valley, VA (where Barbara was born in 1790s), Hamilton Co., Ohio and then (with many
others of Swiss descent, appropriately) to Switzerland Co., IN south of Ohio County. The
Myers family, according to my info, was generally "from Pennsylvania," but not
sure how many stops along the way to IN. Father of the person who moved to IN and ran
the tavern was a Michael Myers b. 1750 in PA, Any info on any of this would be
appreciated.
