Hello, Kathy
I can't tell you the hours of the courthouse........I was there last
fall. I don't remember that there were a lot of record, but the staff
was very nice (as they are in MOST places.)
I'd be interested in more info about the vital statistics place, and
what's available.
You might want to visit the old German church that's there. They have
some church books that go back
into the 1870"s. (Of course, they are written in German, but I have a
friend who is from Germany and very
fluent that can read the few I copied. Even in German you can recognize
the names.)
The guy I'm chasing was the church secretary at that time.
(You'll have to ask for directions -- the church is only a few block from
the court house.)
In Ohio County, I'm looking for info on JOHN OBERTATE aka as CASPER
HENRY OBERTATE. Would love to find some parents for him.
To complicate my search, there are three men with this name, which I
believe to be a father and son, and then my guy who is probably a nephew.
Our John came to Rising Sun, in 1872, married in 1874 (I have the
license) and applied for
naturalization in 1876. Then moved to Carroll Co. Ky c. 1880.
Let us know how your visit goes.
Phyllis
