I did find the census for 1870 from Aberdeen County that you are referring to. The names
are right and I was so excited when I found that. But look at the ages, could the census
taker have been that far off on the ages? It has John as 15 and he should have been
seven. Mary is probably Lizzie's sister-in-law instead of her daughter, which might
be possible since all I am going on is my aunt's old letter. I don't know if I
should accept this as really being them.
Lizzie has no husband and is probably the parents of the children and no father present.
I find that there was a James P. Lewis that served in the 37th Regiment, Indiana Infantry.
I also find Moulton and Hall in that regiment. I did find that the 37th Regiment is from
the right area. I don't find that James P. Lewis died in the Civil War but I am told
that he did die about that time. That is why I was looking for him in the cemetery
records. If it is really them with wrong ages in the 1870 census then I probably need to
somehow find cemetery records of Aberdeen Co. Do you have access to that information?
Also do you think I should accept the 1870 census as really the family?
Thank you for helping,
Burnice
