Hello all & Happy New Year
Does anyone know of a list of cholera deaths for Ohio Co
from the late 1840's. Attached is a reference to such a
list for Dearborn Co.
I have a hunch that the first wife (Mary Sharp) of my
ggrandfather may have been a victim.
Are there any historical accounts of cholera in the region
for that period?
Thanks,
Stan Mitchell

Hello Sheryl,
I contacted the Indiana State Library and received one page of names
that included my ggg grandfather. Just in case he died in Indiana, they
may have a death listing for your ancestor. Cholera was running rampant
in the late forties and early fifties. Someone told me that the river
boat captains were dumping cholera victims overboard [to save the
passengers] and didn't realize that they were polluting the water with
the disease. I did read, somewhere, that riverboat captains were dying
of the disease also. Hope this helps you. If you do find any other info
on where the victims may have been buried, I sure would like to know.
Someone told me that they buried some cholera victims in mass
graves...if so, then we may be up the creek ourselves. I haven't found
the grave of my grandfather...yet. Have a great day, God expect's it!
