Mr. Dorrell: I contacted Dillon "Jimmy" Dorrell about looking for the
headstone of Barbara "w/o[wife of] John Myers" in Murray Cemetery near
Aberdeen. I believe I emailed you that he had kindly gone to the cemetery
and written me a nice, informative letter back with a picture of the
cemetery. He has done great work getting grants and maintaining the historic
cemeteries in the area, which is much appreciated by ancestors of those there
across the country. However, he did not apparently understand that I need
him to access that particular headstone and try to divine what it says in
terms of birth/death dates, age at death, etc. in order to connect it as
Barbara Surber who was born in 1794/6 and married John Myers at some point.
If it says she died before 1833, it's not who I think it is, b/c my ancestor
was born in 1833. The stone had been broken along the relevant dates and put
back together, so I suggested a clay impression, rubbing, etc., but I don't
know what might work depending on the situation. In the picture he sent me I
am pretty sure the relevant stone is in the upper right hand part of the
fenced in cemetery shown. I got the info from his Ohio County Cemeteries
book and it otherwise fits my genealogical info, but I need verification from
somebody there of what it says if at all possible. I wrote him a second time
and thanked him, and explained this, but did not hear back. Hopefully he is
well. Could you possibly explain this to him and ask him to check? I would
very much appreciate it. If not, please let me know either way. Thanks.
Brandon Myers, KS.
