My name is Ron Meshew, and some of my roots go back to the
southeastern
portion of Indiana. Please let me explain.
My Great Grandfather was Thomas SMITH, an English immigrant who came to
the
US via Ireland, who married a BIRDZELL (sp? possibly BURZEL or
Birdsell.).
Their daughter was my Grandmother, Annie Patience Louise SMITH, who
married my
Grandfather, Benjamin C. MESHEW in the Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky.
Both Thomas and his wife died in the Jackson Purchase area after 1900.
I have thought that my Great Grandmother's name was Mary Ann BURZEL,
possibly Birdzell or Birdsell, who married SMITH in Clark County, IN,
circa
1865-1870. SMITH had been working on the canal system around Cincinnati,
near Rising
Sun, IN. Secondly, I have thought that Mary Ann's parents were William
and
Louisa BURZEL, their place of residence, unknown.
I noticed you were interested in the name BIRDZELL, and thought that I
might
jot you this note, and request if you have any knowledge of this BURZEL.
I
would appreciate any data or knowledge that you have available.
Thanks.
Ron Meshew
