Hello List,
I really could use some help on my BROWN and RICHMOND family in Ohio & Dearborn
County, Indiana.
I would very much like to find my great grandfather's sister's death date and
place. Also would like to find family members who would like to communicate.
Almeda Elfa Richmond married James J. Brown in Ohio County, Indiana
12 Oct 1871
On the 1880 Ohio County, census, Randolph Twp, Rising Sun, I find
James J. Brown, Jr WM Head 34 Photographer IN NJ IN
Effie WF Wife 24 Keeping house OH IN OH
Benjamin WM Son 8 IN IN OH
Mattie WF Dau 6 KY IN OH
Maggie WF Dau 2 IN IN OH
Then on the 1900 Census of Ohio County, Randolph Twp, Rising Sun
James J. Brown HWM Aug 1843 age 54 Married 29 years
Mrs. Effie WWF Aug 1854 age 45 Married 29 years
Ben M SWM July 1872 age 27
Maggie DWF Jan 1878 age 22
Ora Blance DWF Aug 1887 age 17
Then in 1910 Ohio County Randolph Twp, Rising Sun
Eliza Brown (s/b Effie) H F Widow age 55 mother of 3 children all 3 living
Benjamin son M W 37 clerk on steamboat
I believe this is Effie with her name appearing to be written as Eliza. The girls are
gone and I am assuming married.
In the 1920 Ohio County Census, I can no longer find Effie in Ohio County or Benjamin the
son. So I thought I would look in Dearborn County. I did find an EFFIE BROWN however I am
not sure I can consider her mine. This is the 1920 census information:
Effie Brown Head Owned Free of Mortgage Female White Widow Age 72
George Son Male White Single age 55 Laborer Gas Company
John Son Male White Single age 47 Laborer Gas Company
William Son Male White Widower age 43
Hiffelmire, Harvey Son in Law Male White age 40
Mattie Daughter Female White age 38
Brown, Edgar Grandson Male White age 24 Single
Ackerman, Edna Granddaughter Female White age 15
Ackerman, Ebel Grandson Male White Single age 14 Laborer in Garage
Mattie also works but I can't read occupation. Could this family be my Effie Richmond
Brown family. Also, not sure of the Hiffelmire name, that is how I transcribed it, it may
be something else entirely. The name of Ebel is my own transcription also, I could not
make out the names very well on this 1920 census. Ages are not exactly right and the
older sons I cannot figure since Effie states that she had 3 children and 3 living. Could
these sons have been from a previous marriage of her husband James???? He was 10 years
older than her and they would have been old enough to have been gone by the 1900 census or
living with their mother.
I would appreciate any help on this family that I could get.
Thanks so much
Cindy
