Phyllis,
Burials in New and German Cemeteries are combined and listed alphabetically
in Ohio County Cemeteries by Dillon R. Dorrell. The ten Niehaus burials are on
page 194. I have no way of knowing which of the two cemeteries they are in
(or both) or which section. You might call or stop in to see "Jimmy" (812
438-2056, 313 S. Walnut/Hwy. 56) to ask if there is some sort of map or locator
for those cemeteries. If there isn't, you'll need comfortable shoes and a
little time to find them.
Rising Sun ("New") Cemetery is on Highway 262 (Main Street) just outside of
town heading west. German Cemetery is across Nelson Road from the northeast
corner of New Cemetery.
An excellent map of Rising Sun and Ohio County is available at the Museum
(Ohio County Historical Society, 212 S. Walnut), which you MUST see anyway.
It just occurred to me that the Niehaus name is very familiar. I can't put
my finger on the picture of my great uncles's headstone, but I'm thinking a
Niehaus headstone may be nearby. Start in German Cemetery on the side next to
Nelson Road. If I'm right, there's a Niehaus a few feet from the road.
Good luck.
