I have a lengthy obituary for John Wesley Shehane which was published in The Ohio County News if anyone needs it.
Stephen Ricketts 1820-1898 and Margaret Melick Ricketts 1824-1904 are
buried in the New Liberty Cemetery, S. R. 250 near East Enterprise,
Cotton Twp., Switzerland County, IN.
Here is some info about Margaret Ricketts, Vevay Reveille (newspaper) 3
Mar 1904.
"Mrs. Margaret M. Ricketts, daughter of Wm. and Maria Melick, was born
in Summerset Co., NJ Oct 8 1824 and died at East Enterprise, IN on Feb.
26, 1904 aged 79 years, 4 months, and 18 days. She lived in this
neighborhood ever since she came to Indiana with her parents from New
Jersey in 1837. She, being but 13 years of age, had to endure many
hardships. They were one month on the way, moving in wagons. Many
remember how much pleasure she took in telling of the old pioneer days
when this country was inhabited with wild beasts. She was married to
Stephen Rickets on Oct. 16, 1842 and, for more than 55 years, they trod
the ways of life together. She was a kind and affectionate mother. To
them were born ten children of which five survive her, Andrew and
William Ricketts, Mary Lulu Conner, Phebe Bovard, and Inez Lockwood.
Mrs. Ricketts was the possessor of 31 grand children and 15 great grand
children. Since the death of her husband, she has made her home with
Mrs. Inez Lockwood at East Enterprise. During here last illness she was
perfectly willing to go to the mansion not made by hands, eternal in
the heavens. The funeral services were held at New Liberty. Sermon by
Rev. Helms."
The 1860 census of Cotton Twp. lists the children of Stephen & Margaret
Ricketts as: Francis M. 16, Mary E. 15, Lusetia ? 13, Andres 11, Joseph
9, Phebe A. 7, Olla 5.
On the 1880 census, the children with them were: Joseph 27, William 18,
and Anice 11(probably should be Inez).
Is anyone researching the Brown family of Rising Sun? In particular Horace Brown, who was born in New York ca 1810, his wife Martha (Unknown) born in Ohio ca 1815. Both died after August 15, 1850, the date of the census. He was a carpenter. Their children were, ages in 1850 census, Jesse 18, Arminta 13, Japeth 5, and Josephine 3. Arminta is an ancestor of my wife's. She married Rueben Houghton, a photographer, in Rising Sun and on the Ohio river. They had two sons, both born in Ohio county, Clarence 1859 and Everett 1861. The family still lived in Rising Sun in 1870. Between then and 1883 they moved to Felicity, Clermont Co. Ohio. Sometime before 1900 Rueben and Arminta either separated or divorced. She in 1900 had returned to Rising Sun while he lived at Mentor, Bracken Co., KY and their boys remained at Felicity. In the 1900 census she lists herself as a widow with two living children but her Ruben didn't die until 1904 in Ohio. In 1900 she is living alone and i!
n that census says her mother was born in Indiana not Ohio. The 1880 census lists her brother Japeth, a photographer, living in Rising Sun.
I am in search of any information on this family.

I am the secretary/treasurer of New Liberty Cemetery and know this stone well as I put a flag on it, and all the veterans' stones in the cemetery , each Memorial Day.
>These were born in Ohio and moved to Switzerland, Dearborn and Ohio Co,
Indiana.
I have a Margaret Melich Ricketts, wife of Steven Ricketts, no other info.
Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ricketts, 1845 - 1939, married John Conner. I
am pretty certain Ricketts are buried in the "New Cemetery", Rising Sun,
Indiana. I THINK I may have a picture of their stone and don't know why, if
I do, that I did not enter their dates. I will look when I get time IF you
like, didn't mean to be butting in here.

Just to make sure that you realize that this mail list is for Ohio
county which is located in southeast Indiana. Many people get confused
and think this list is for the state of Ohio.

Tom, it was good to hear from you. I will be happy to share what I have with you. E-mail me and let me know how best to contact you. If you have a computer I can download my information on to a CD and mail it to you. I live about 40 miles west of St. Louis. My great grandfather, Mathew Chandler, moved to Missouri after the Civil War. He was the first son of William Chandler Jr. and his mother was Frances Coy Chandler.
Get back to me and we'll see if we can't both learn more about our heritage. Don

Yes, this is my William. I would love to share info. I'm a little slow to respond because I don't have internet at home. But I will check more often. Thank you.
Which child of William C. do you relate to? Wife Francis Coy or Elizabeth Moore? I trace from Elizabeth Moore's son, Oliver Owen.
