I would be very interested in knowing, any, Scott or Hannah-Hanna Surnames that, maybe, buried there. My Scott and Hannah family were living there in or before 1838 before moving to Daviess County, IN. I am trying to locate any relative; in hopes, of maybe finding siblings, parents, cousins.
I would greatly appreciate you sending them to me. My email address is: debby_scott(a)yahoo.com. Thank you so much, in advance for any help.

I have tried to track down my Myers and Surber relatives in Ohio and
Switzerland Counties. If you know anybody around there with knowledge of these
surnames to put me in touch with, that would be really great. A specific problem I
have is this: There is a "Barbara, w/o [wife of] John" Myers tombstone in
Murray Cemetery, near Aberdeen, per info in Dorrell's Ohio County Cemeteries book.
My relatives went there and took pictures, but that was before we realized
we needed something else. The stone was broken across any birth/death date
info except that she was 73 years old at death. The stone was apparently poorly
repaired and apparently not readable as to this info. However, possibly a
rubbing or a clay impression would bring out enough of any info on it to make
connections. I believe this is my great, great grandmother Barbara Surber Myers,
who was born in Shenandoah Valley, VA in 1796. Looking for any info that
might confirm this from the stone. I'm virtually certain that Myers of our line
remain in the area, but have not connected. If ever you or someone you know
is at the Murray Cemetery (I have NO familiarity with locations in the county,
so I don't know if this is a long way off from where you are, etc.) and would
be willing to try to get something more off the stone, I would very much
appreciate the effort. Worth a shot to ask somebody from the area about this, I
guess. Thanks. Brandon Myers, Auburn, KS.

Hi there, I am trying to find my great grandparents grave sites. They are buried in the New Cemetary across the road from the old union cem., where my grandmother, husband & uncle are buried. My great grandfather's name is William Bright my grandmothers name is Elmira Bright. Thank you for your help. I am fairly new at this research on relatives, and have been hitting brick walls. My dad is from Rising Sun. I hope to get back there one day to go through records. tj
Carol,
The surname Corbin sure rings a bell with me. I am checking with my dad
who was born and raised on Salem Ridge and has great memory of people
etc if he knows anything about your grandpa/grandma. What were your
parent's name? My dad was born in 1919 so he might be a contemporary of
them? Did they live in Rising Sun??

Cindy, if you find and photograph those tombstones that would be
wonderful! Or just telling us where they were would be sufficient. A Mr.
Keith from the court house is also going to look as he is very familiar
with the way Mr. Dorrell mapped out the tombstones there. It is a little
confusing. I will keep you posted if he has any luck. We really want to
find these tombstones for our family history and verify the burials. I
can't think that in just a few short years these tombstones have eroded
away. Like you, I believe these were actual tombstone readings. I looked
at Grandma Corbins death record there in OH Co and it says burial:
Rising Sun. Her obit says "services held at the Salem Church and burying
grounds". We checked both the Old Salem Church Cemetery and Rising Sun
Cemetery and they are not there. The Rising Sun Cemetery has complete
records back to 1913. We can't find where Grandpa Bassett Corbin died
and no one remembers that's living, so I can't get my hands on his !
death certificate to see what cemetery it states he was buried in. I
requested a search in IN and was told he is not recorded as dieing
there. All I know is Mr. Dorrell and his group of transcribers saw those
tombstones somewhere and recorded them in his book. What a mystery.
Blessings
Carol

I have only been there once but I recall there are TWO Union cemeteries,
side by side, there behind the school. The old cemetery and the "newer"
cemetery. The newer cemetery looks almost as old as the old cemetery. I
thought Cedar Hedge was nearer the road you would go on to go out to Salem
Cem. on Salem Ridge Rd.

Cindy,
You are a jewel to offer to do this. Thank you so much! I do have a good
photo printer. The historical society did explain the difference in the two
cemteries even though they are next to one another and appear to be one. I
thought the proper name for these cemeteries should be Cedar Hedge Union
Cemetery to cut down on the confusion. Most all cemeteries have older
sections. Some of our problem is we are not very familiar with the area. It
is so beautiful there. We always enjoy our stay. Salem Church is where
grandma Mary's sister, Rachel Vanosdol Reed and husband John A Reed are
buried. I did get their tombstone pics while there searching. I will keep
you posted Cindi. Thanks again. Those tombstones are sure to be found if
they are really there.

Thanks Dan.
The thing is, the book Mr. Dorrell published listed actual transcribed readings of the tombstones. We were told by the historical society that he used groups of young people to help and I'm sure it was quite a remarkable undertaking. I looked up Grandma Mary's death record and it just states burial: Rising Sun. Her obit says "services at Salem Church and burying grounds" so we checked both Salem & Rising Sun cemeteries. The funeral home has changed hands and the records are not available. Ohio Co is small and there have only been a couple of funeral homes over the years. We can't locate the place of death for grandpa Bassett Corbin so haven't been able to get his death cert. The hunt goes on...
Thanks again for the suggestions, Dan.

How odd. Salem Ridge church is right next to Dearborn co. with it's own ceme. My Thomas's are buried there. They lived in Lawrenceburg. But the lists the Corbins in Union Ceme. This ceme. is actually two ceme. One behind the High school and the other on the other side of the road called New Cedar Hedge. Maybe that is the confusion. I'm very familiar with these cemeteries. And with alot of others. I'll look. If you have a printer , i have adigital camera and will try get the pics and e-mail them to you if found.
