Thank you for looking.
Of all the Traders that lived there, this is kind of surprising.

I don't know where John Trader is buried. Elizabeth I think died in Ripley
County.
Mary Ann is buried in Tipton County.
I know that some of the children moved to Rush County and Hamilton County(?)
in Indiana. Not sure where the children George, Mark, and Frances, moved to.
But with this information, it looks like they left the county.
Do you have Ben(jamin) or Hiram Johnson listed in "Ohio County Cemeteries"?
These were Elizabeth Johnson's brothers.
Thanks.

You can say that again. I've been working with the church that has the
records of a little cemetery in Anthony. They have records of those buried
there that do not have headstones. I wanted to get with them and the records
and make up an index. You would not believe how suspisious they were about
it. Now they seem to be coming around. Myself and several others have
already started writing the names down. This list from the church "who
originally sold the plots" will be a great addition. By the way, the answer
you gave me concerning the only Morris plots just might be who I was looking
for. The first name, Joseph, that had only one date, I'm thinking might be
his birth date, if it is he's the Joseph I was looking for, if not, he might
be his father. The Nanney could be Nancy, don't you think?
Thanks so much,
LaVerne
My connection to Ohio Co. and Rising Sun IN is thru the OBERTATE and
RAKER families.
Henry Raker who setttled there is a brother to Herman Raker, who m.
Fannie Obertate, dau of my John,
(b. 1852.)
Could you possibly give me any insight as to how to connect my Obertate
line to the other Obertate line
there................I have been to court house and church in Rising Sun,
and also in Carroll Co. KY where my
John moved about 1880.
In the cemetery close to town (German one) there is a large monument to
"CASPER HENRY OBERTATE" and indicates he was born in Markendorff
(Germany)
This family was in Rising Sun before 1870. The 1880 census gives his
age as 52 (b. 1828)
He names children: Fannie --- Henry --- Frank --- Charlie.
I have made contact with a descendant of the above....... but we cannot
put anything together.
My husband's great grandfather, John Obertate, b. 1852, is the other
line. Came to Rising Sun in 1872
1) ---signed "John Obertate" when he was church secretary in mid-1870's
in
Rising Sun.
2) --- on marriage license in 1874, wasCasper H. Obertate.
3) --- on citizenship application signs John Obertate.
4) --- his death certificate is John Henry Obertate, and birthplace as
Markendorff.
5)--- the newspaper obit reads John Casper Obertate.
6) --- moved to Carroll Co. KY about 1880.
7) --- names children: Fannie --- Andrew Henry --- Charles (died
as infant)
MY GUESS: My John Obertate is a nephew of the older Obertate.
There is also an unidentified Andrew Obertate in Rising Sun who applied
for citizenship in late 1860's and
I am guessing this might be a brother of my John.
I am willing to share any info I have on the Obertates. and the Rakers.
John, do you see a cemetery listing for the infant Charles Obertate.?

I admit that I'm a little surprised how the requests have snowballed. Mary
Anne Dorrell at the Ohio County Historical Society was kind enough to copy an
index of burials listed in Ohio County Cemeteries. The index is 148 pages at
about 43 names per page. A digital copy was accidentally lost and I don't
think another digital copy exists.
The index is the only thing that makes answering inquiries about Ohio County
burials possible (the book is 228 pages). It would certainly be a worthwhile
project for the Historical Society to publish it. From my short experience
so far, there would be a lot of interest in buying copies.
It's too bad every county doesn't have a Jimmy Dorrell to record and preserve
its history.
Isaac (3-3-1833 - 4-6-1901 is in Plot 7 of Cedar Hedge (Newer) Cemetery in
Rising Sun. Josie (4-17-1883, 9y 3m), daughter of M.M. & S.P. Baxter, is in
Carmel Cemetery, Highway 56, just east of Aberdeen. I'm not sure about
records. You could inquire at the Ohio County Historical Society,
ohiocohist(a)seidata.com. Bill Dichtl is the Director there.
Hi John,
I just want to thank you for the requests that you have answered. I know
that I really appreciate it, along I am sure as the requestors.
I'm not sure if you had planned on doing this! I will continue to
appreciate any help you can give. You actually know more about Ohio co
than I do!
Something else I wanted to mention is that my Dearborn and OHio counties
sites have been awarded an appreciation award by the Indiana GenWeb
organization for one of the top 10 most helpful sites out of the 92
Indiana counties. Ohio county was 8 with Dearborn being 2.
I have information here that I need to get up on the web with time. The
pictures site I am working on.
Just thought you would be interested in knowing...you have helped!
Thanks again!

Surname: Easterwood, Trader

Looking for information on parents of Eli Easterwood born around 1832 in
state of Ohio(?). Married in Boone County Kentucky 1854, Mary Ann Trader
who was born in Dearborn County 1835 and lived in Ohio County, Indiana.
Also seeking info on Mary Ann Trader's parents, John Trader and Elizabeth
Johnson.
Mr. Dorrell,
I was wondering if I can impose upon you ask if there are any surnames of
ROSSELL or ROSELL in Dillon Sr.'s listing of cemeteries. My ggg-grandfather
JAMES W. Rossell was from Vevay and married Mary Furnish, the 4th daughter
of John Furnish/Lucretia Coffer b. 1814, 02 October, 1836 in Switzerland
County, IN.
They are buried in Carroll County at the Rossell/ Furnish Cemetery near
Eagle Station. My query is if there any Rossells buried in the cemeteries
on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. In the days of ferryboats, families
frequently married back and forth across the river, and commerce was
conducted as though they were one community. Now, however, with distant
inter-connecting bridges, these communities are many miles apart, 'round
trip by highway.
Inter-relations between Vevay and Ghent with the Markland Dam Bridge not too
distant have not fared as poorly as has Rising Sun and Rabbit Hash.
Whereas, they once were each other's closest communal neighbors, they are
now a distant one hundred ten miles apart by highway, and eye each other
across 1/3 a mile of river as suspiciously as do enemy nations across
fortified borders.
Thanks,

Is there a Drake or Cloud Cemetery in Ohio CO? I'm looking for Benjamin
Drake and his wife, Hannah and Henry & Lucy Cloud. I am also interested
in other Drakes and Clouds. Also is there anyone willing to do research
in Ohio and Switzerland CO? Thank you.

I’m sorry to report that there is no known cemetery in Ohio County, Indiana
by the name of East Bend. There are approximately 60 known cemeteries in
Ohio County, for which all legible headstones have been recorded in Ohio
County Cemeteries, by Dillon R. Dorrell, Sr.
There are no listings for Melvin Thomas or Thomas Melvin Riggs, nor for
Isaac, Delilah, Joseph, or Ruth Riggs. There are also no listings for last
name Atherton or Womsley.
There are several Riggs listed in Ohio County. For example, in Union
Cemetery are Thomas J., William W., and Elizabeth Riggs. In Cedar Hedge
Cemetery are John, Elizabeth, William, and Blanche Riggs. In New and German
Cemeteries are Jennie, Charles, Silas Riggs.

I am looking for burials in East Bend Cemetery in Rising Sun, Ohio Co. IN for RIGGS buried there. Would like the address if at all possible so the I can write to them. Looking for Thomas Melvin RIGGS or Melvin Thomas RIGGS. Born 14 July 1825, died 04 April 1919. His marriages say Melvin Thomas and his death says Thomas Melvin. I have his parents as Isaac RIGGS and Delilah Atherton RIGGS. His death certificate has parents listed as Joseph RIGGS and Ruth Womsley RIGGS. Death information by son in law Ira Hodges of Grant, KY
Thanks, Rickie Sue Riggs

I presume that you know that Timothy and his wife Susan (d 10-17-1855) are
buried in the Conner Cemetery on State Road 56 on the old Conner Farm, just
east of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. (Ohio County Cemeteries, D.R. Dorrell, page 118)
Another Timothy Conner (1819-1901) and other Conners are in Mt. Carmel
Cemetery.
John S. Dorrell Indianapolis
Can anyone please tell me what might be found in the Ohio County
Historical Society in Rising Sun, IN? I am particularly looking for
Church Records that might define where in PA Timothy Conner
(1781-1856) was born. Was there a Church associated with the Mt.
Carmel Cemetery on IN Route 56, Ohio Co., IN?
Thanks for any help,
Walt Conner
I am looking for information on the Mays family. I am looking for them in
Switzerland and Ohio Counties in Indiana. There was also a branch of them
that settled in Vigo County. They came West from Ohio. The mother was
Sarah Bowels Mays. She had several children that came with her to
Indiana. One of them was Joshua Mays, who later married Lucy Palmer
(Palmore). Would appreciate any information in the line.
