Are you in search of a volunteer to take a photo at St. Mary's Cemetery in Avilla?
I will be making a visit to the Cemetery within the next week or two to take a few photos
per a request of a collateral family line.
Since I will already be there, I thought I might as well see if anyone out there would
like to make a request as well!
I currently have about 30 photos online from the cemetery taken 4 years ago.
Recently I spent an afternoon there taking photos of related family lines, that will
increase the number of headstones photographed to over 200.
(Special thanks to a cousin in Oklahoma who created a list including locations for me!) I
hope to have them online in the near future.
The surnames from St.Mary's Cem. I currently have are mostly related through the
BLUST, SCHMIDT, and SCHLOTTERER families of Noble Co.
Surnames of photos I currently have include:
Blust
Drerup
Henry
Hoffer
Ley
Riegel
Schenkel
Schlotter(er)
Schmenk
Sorch
Truelove
Ueber
A list of inscription readings from St. Mary's Cem is available at:

GUIDELINES FOR MAKING A PHOTO REQUEST,
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!
Please make sure the name you request is included on the list from the link above.
Please make your request on INNOBLE mailing list.
Visit will be made either later this week, or possibly next week. Make your request
sooner rather than later!
Include the persons first & last name, identifying years on headstone and location in
cemetery # - # from link above.
( 1-1 means Section 1, Row 1 )
Multiple requests will be considered, but not guaranteed. (Depends on volume of requests,
and time! )
I will TRY to honor all requests!
If you have multiple requests, please list your "top 10" first. In the event I
must limit the photos taken, I will stop here.
( Don't hesitate to stop at only 10, you may be the only one making a request!)
There will be NO fee charged.
Photos will be delivered by direct email, or possibly Snapfish photo sharing for multiple
photos (more than just a few.)
I will post contact informaton after the photos are taken, so you can claim your photos.
WHY am I doing this?
As i said, I am planning on making the trip already. If I can help someone else in the
process, the better!
I am interested in preserving family history. Many of the older headstones, especially in
Sections 1 & 2 are already between 100 -130+ years old. Sadly, there are more than
just a few that are already nearly impossible to read due to weathering or vandalism over
the years. Photographing the stone will not preserve the stone itself, but will provide
an image for future generatons.
